All,

Coming up on 11 months post benzo after 16 years.  My worst symptom lately is OCD of all varieties.  OCD about work, OCD about old memories, OCD about germs.  You name it, I am very obsessive and seem to be putting myself in situations where I can't find exact and specific answers.

Anyone relate?  Anyone get past?  I have started seeing a therapist to learn some coping mechanisms.

This has been one of the hardest times of my recovery as this symptom causes me to question my morals and at times my future.

Anyone?

Please respond :)...

After coming off all my meds too , I have developed pure OCD , the most bizarre thoughts and they freak me out . I'm seeing a therapist and doing exposures but it's so tough. I pray we overcome this thing

Big time!  Right now I'm obsessing over the Vegas shootings.  I'm at 11 months.  Glad you're seeing a therapist.  I also take 1/4 of a 25mg Atarax (hydroxyzine). It's a prescription antihistamine & really helps when I get super worked up.  It's strong so it makes me sleepy & depressed.

Atarax has been my saving grace. I am a certified anger resolution therapist and have always been a no violence no yelling voice of reason in disagreements etc. since being in withdrawal all I do is have non stop thoughts of punching people or beating the crap out of people who do bad things to others or who look at my kids funny.  It's non stop. I don't do it in windows but in waves the thoughts are constant to the point I'm afraid I'm going to go to hell. I've always had OCD but this is different I'd never act on them but they actually sometimes cause physical anxiety.

Yes, the intrusive, obsessive, unwanted thoughts were a big problem for me. I was terrified of them. I'm at 11 months now myself. Therapy helped me a lot. They are still there yet much less in intensity and much more manageable.
