Klonopin for 5weeks tapering with ativan

I was on Klonopin for 5 weeks at .5mg,  I had severe fatigue and had to stop taking it.  My dr told me to quit the klonopin and go back to Ativan .5mg 3x a day and vistaril at night.  Today is my 5th day off the Klonopin and the ativan is hardly helping me severe anxiety.  I felt terrible all day.  Weak, nauseas, crying, shakey and anxious.  I need to know if the will subside soon.  I know this is not a normal taper as I have read I need to taper with another long lasting benzo.  But i was only on the Klonopin for 5 weeks and a low does.  Am I having withdrawal symptoms or am I just scared?

I have no medical expertise, but I'm surprised your doctor put you on a shorter acting benzo after Klonopin.  Although I've heard from two medical professionals (a doctor and nurse clinician) that Ativan is *cleaner* whatever that means.  I was put on Vistaril and personally, it made me batty  (opposite effect of what it is supposed to do).  I read on a drugs site that others had the same reaction to Vistaril, especially after about the third dose of Vistaril for whatever reason.

Hello Meliz333!

Welcome to the forum.  I'm glad that you found us.  I'm sorry that you're feeling terrible.  It sounds like you're reacting poorly to at least some benzos.  The amount of Ativan that your doc moved you to should have been enough to cover the loss of the klonopin, so I'm at a loss for why you are feeling so poorly unless these drugs simply don't agree with you.  However, the strength of a forum such as ours is that I'm pretty sure there will be individuals here with similar experiences who can provide you with some information that you can use to move forward.

If you haven’t already done so, please take a thorough look at the Ashton Manual.  It is an authoritative guide to benzodiazepine tapering and includes sections on what to expect during withdrawal and recommended tapering rates.  The manual can be found at this link:  http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual

Here's a link to our Withdrawal Support board:  Withdrawal Support (during your taper)

And here's a link to our Anxiety board:  Anxiety

I have taken the Ativan before with success.  My body responded terribly to the Klonopin so maybe its just some residual effects till its out of my system.
