Severe insomnia

Has insomnia caused you to age? Is it permanent?
Posted

I remember looking in the mirror, when I was in the throes of the worst insomnia, and being horrified by how old I looked! Really hang-dog face and bad color. I'm still not out of the woods completely, I have a painful condition which can keep me awake, but for the most part I sleep pretty well. And I look tons better I think. Enough so that people comment on how good my skin looks.

Most seem to think it is my "genes", but I take very good care of myself, use sunscreen and eat very well. So I would say that yes you will look a lot better when you get through this, if you take care of yourself. It isn't permanent! But of course we do all get older anyway...

Been having insomnia for 6 months didn't know I hit tolerance to the Benzo. Was told I would stabilize and to updose on this forum. Bad advice! I got sickier!

I'm confused, are you presently back on a benzo? or still off since cold turkey? Sorry to hear you are having such a rough road.

Insomnia is rampant during withdrawal, and can happen even during slow tapering - I'd say it's close to guaranteed with a cold turkey.

Many members believe that updosing and stabilizing can help, but some have tried this and failed - others would not risk it all. Insomnia generally resolves to whatever your baseline was, but updosing is likely to simply delay the return of natural sleep.

Other BB members may certainly offer you their advice based own their own experiences, but no one here is qualified to tell you what to do, as the disclaimer that appears below each and every post warns.

Members here are adults, and responsible for their own decisions regarding what they do or do not do, here on BB or anywhere else on the internet.

Try Optimized Tryptophan Plus, Life Extension....and melatonin. I have to take 15 mg of melatonin per night to even get 5 hours....start low and then if tolerated, work higher.....let me know if it works, please.
