I've not had panic attacks like this through my withdrawal, they only just begun and they are very physical. Initially, my withdrawal has been all mental.. But now, I have been suffering with panic attacks, shortness of breath and insomnia. It basically feels like I've been having near constant trouble breathing and severe panic. The insomnia doesn't help, I've only been getting a couple broken hours every night. I don't really know how to calm myself down.

Has anyone else struggled with this during month 5 and is possible to struggle with zero physical symptoms and then suddenly start having panic attacks and shortness of breath? It's been happening for about a week or so.

I'm in month 5 also, and I have something similar to you.  I haven't had a full blown panic attack since I CT'd in May, but strangely last week I started to get these "mini attacks" that happen out of the blue.  I had 3 so far, and I think they come from very strong adrenaline surges.  They're short, but very intense.  I jump when it happens, and I feel like my whole body is surging, I also scream a little to get relief, my pulse goes through the roof and breathing becomes very difficult.  Then after a few minutes it's all over.  Normally, my pulse is in 70/80 per minute range, but when this happens it jumps to 110-120 per minute, and then comes back to normal.

This type of "mini attack" is the reason why I relapsed last year 3 months into withdrawal.  It was new to me and scared me to death when it happened, and I didn't know how to handle it.  But this time I am determined to continue and will not let it ruin my chances for recovery.  When they happen, I know they pass, and I ride them out, although it feels like the world is coming to an end at the moment.  Hope that helps

I'm 3.5 months out, and had a first panick attack too since I CT in june. Its like you, an intense and short adrenaline surge, and its horrible in the brain and breathing and balance.

But I had a very stressful event that could be the cause.

I noticed you tapered from klonopin.  While I didn't have an issue in month 5, I notice that quite a few people who tapered klonopin seemed to get hit with a major "wave" about 5 months after jumping.  I don't know what the reasoning is for this.  Hopefully what you are going through will resolve in a couple of weeks!

When I relapsed last year 3 months into withdrawal due to panic attack, it happened because a family member was nagging me nonstop to get together socially.  Her nagging was so traumatic and stressful to me that it resulted in panic attack and subsequent relapse.  I resent her until today for that.  I never told her what her constant nagging did to me, but I have eliminated her from my life completely until I am fully healed.  I'm 5 months out now since I ct'd in this May, and I will not let anyone now ruin my chances for recovery.  I don't mean to sound selfish or anything, but our well-being should be priority number one in this process.  If we don't heal, we can't be there for anyone.

Had an almost decent day today.. Most of the day I felt clear, rather than feeling like I was on another planet. I did some of my usual hobby stuff, hung out with friends and played video games.. Mostly without much anxiety. Until night rolled around, then suddenly I began to feel light headed and fatigued, I noticed I began to feel emotionally strange and otherworldly again, for no apparent reason. Hoping that this is just a wave that will soon pass.

I am not yet off benzos but already have panic attacks as a withdrawal symptom. They started as soon as I lowered the daily dose. And the more I lower it the more panic comes. Taking a benzo should not be the answer (unless maybe ONLY when one has a panic attack?). Dont know... Im ok with the idea of having benzos with me only for those moments when im under panic but not for daily habitual use to sleep and function.

I found this resource: http://www.paniccure.com/Approaches/CBT/Mastering_Panic/Mastering_Panic_Index.htm

I will try to study them but im not so great with workbooks.

They say panic is linked to fear of something and if you work on your fear for that something you will lessen the panic attacks.
