Generally a month or so, but it varies.  As I understand it,  it's about how long it takes for the huge majority of any residual drug to be out of your system for a long-acting benzo like valium.  So after acute, your body is no longer adjusting to decreasing amounts of med.  The med is essentially all gone.  But acute is not the end of withdrawal.  It's just often the worst part.
