Chirping sounds in my ear, withdrawal or something else?

Just to give a brief introduction, I have been on Clonazepam for 17 years, I have been doing a slow taper since November 2016. I have gotten to a pretty low dose but I'm scared to take it down any further. During the taper I would have a tight headed feeling and a wet feeling in the back of my head that would start to subside after a few weeks and then I would taper off some more. About three months ago my ears starting ringing and every now and then I would hear this chirping sound in my ear. Mainly at night or if I bent over to pick up something. My husband could actually hear it, if he put his ear up to mine. I went to an ear, nose, throat specialist, they did a hearing test, and actually performed an MRI to see if there was anything wrong with the ear or the veins in that area. The hearing test and MRI images came back normal. Since nothing was found, it has pretty much gotten to the point where there is no further suggestion from the doctor on what to do and that since nothing was found I'm alright. I was curious if anyone experienced the ringing and chirping sounds (especially the chirping sounds) and if it was truly withdrawal symptoms that passed after the taper was complete and time had passed or if it turned out to be something physically wrong? To date my ears still ring, it fluctuates from tolerable to annoying. The chirping sound seems to mainly occur while I'm having a dream at night (not every time), it's so loud it wakes me, the only thing I notice is that my heart rate is up. One further note, the chirping frequency does go along with my heart beat, I believe it is called objective pulsatile tinnitus. I think I would feel much better if I new someone else has went through this symptom, gotten through it, and was able to get off benzos. Thanks.

No chirping sounds, but severe hearing loss in some aspects as in consonant sounds and background noise (confirmed by ENT doctor) whereas I had perfect hearing before benzos, tinnitus (hard to describe soft constant sound, maybe like *listening* to a conch seashell as a kid), and sometimes (rarely) a sound that sounds like a soft Emergency Broadcasting Test sound on t.v. that usually goes away quickly.  I've also experienced extreme sensitivity to sound during this ordeal, but that has gotten much better.  I've also had a totally blocked up feeling in both ears that comes and goes quickly as well during this ordeal which has subsided for now.

Yours sounds real creepy and I hope it all resolves soon.

I know all about the "Emergency Broadcast" thing.  It's unpleasant.

Hi broken, I have chirping, buzzing, ringing..sometimes loud, sometimes softer. It varies. Last night, I swear I heard the smoke alarm chirp twice. I was waiting for it to do it again, but it never did. I'll replace the batteries in the SA just in case.

Before I began my taper off of clonazepam, I had no ringing in my ears or hearing loss that I was aware of. Once the taper began, so did the ear noise. Had I not found this site, I would have thought it was an age thing

The wet feeling, I have not had so far, but we all are different in what we experience. Beings you have been checked out by the ENT, had an MRI, it just may be withdrawal/healing process.

I've had all sorts of head pains and fullness in mainly my left ear, but some in my right ear. It feels like my ear has turned into a suction cup when I move on the pillow.  :tickedoff:

The objective pulsatile tinnitus is something I've never heard of, but when I go to concerts, my heart beat tries to match up with the drum beat. I had no idea why, but maybe I do now! I wish you the best!!

I have pretty intense humming while tapering (like the seashell thing). I have had it for years, but it's louder and more frequent with xanax withdrawal. I also get a clicking noise in my right ear at times. I seem to get this when my jaw is especially tight (probably from grinding teeth while asleep). This is another form of tinnitus. From what I read, it's actually a muscle spasm in the inner ear. I believe this is audible if someone were close to your ear. It's not exactly a chirp. It's a click. But perhaps related?

I appreciate everyone's insight on this issue. It is nice to know I'm not alone and that some of you have experienced improvement further along in the tapering process. I still haven't given up looking for a physical cause even though my hope is that it is a withdrawal symptom that will subside once my tapering process is complete. I will definitely keep everyone updated. When I have a stable moment I will post the tapering process that I've been following and other withdrawal symptoms I have experienced and add it to this string. I wish you all the best.
