I'm not sure if this is really the right part of the forum for asking this question, but I am hoping to begin a taper soon so decided to post here.

What are everyone'g thoughts on exercise during taper (or post taper WD)? Beneficial? Aerobic vs anaerobic? Light exercise, or pushing yourself harder to get through out? Does it make things better or worse? Would love to hear experiences.  :)

Everyone is different and reacts differently to stimulation. Take it slow and you'll know

Thanks for the input. I've been doing a little experimenting myself. I remember how early on after my first taper, I noticed I almost seemed to feel a little more tense and heavy after exercise. Definitely a bit worse. Now I've been experiencing that tense, heavy, muscle tightening feeling again. In my last few days of experimenting, I've noticed that on the days where I do get some exercise, I feel worse for the rest of the day, but better physically the next day. Yet somehow when I feel better physically, I seem to feel more depressed. I just feels like I can't find a day where I feel decent both mentally and physically. Trying to find balance is really frustrating. Somehow, I'm hoping to find some sort of rhythm or sweet spot where consistency in physical activity pans out.

Anyway, just curious to hear about others' experiences..

My vote is a yes for exercise. Do how much and as often as you're able.

Exercise and and Magnesium are my saviors right now. Exercise definitely helps with my restlessness/agitation.

Thanks for the input. I know it seems absurd to ask the question of whether exercise is a good thing or not. Anywhere else on the planet, the answer would be a resounding duh.. yes, of course. But we all know how certain things seem to affect those of us who are going through WD much differently.

I think it's great as long as you don't overdo it.  I get a lot of benefit from running, but if i push too hard then i end up in a weird spot.  I would do what your body can handle and what feels right, just like when you make cuts.

Everyone's different, you need to listen to your body and try what's right for you.

I've been an everyday jogger (well, most everyday!) for much of my adult life, so exercise has long been a part of my everyday routine.  I've read in other posts from people who are new to exercising say that it helps to take their minds off of the tapering process.  Again, do whatever works best for you.

Best wishes!!

Thanks for the input, everyone. It seems that the consensus is 'exercise is good, but take it slow and do what your body can handle'. My worst symptom while re-instating has been that heaviness, or 'lead' like pushing down on my body. Sometimes it is tolerable, other times it is very difficult to deal with. I seem to have noticed that when I have a day or two of sitting around too much, and then the next day try to be more active, that is when the symptoms occur. I made myself exercise yesterday, and felt that heaviness for the rest of the evening. I haven't had that feeling at all today, and forced myself to get the same amount of exercise today. I'm praying that tomorrow, I wont experience that symptom again.

If so, I can conclude that consistency through this whole mess really is a big key. Consistency in when you take your dose, how much and when you exercise, what other supplements you take and when you take them, diet as well as time of day that you eat and go to bed, ect. Also, somehow magically getting enough sleep helps immensely.

I'm new to tapering but I think that you've summed up well what I've been reading and am only now experiencing for the first time.  I also think that the many suggestions on this thread are spot on.

There's no better resource for tapering, withdrawal and recovery from benzos than this website.  I've learned heaps from days spent reading, reading and reading again so many threads throughout this website.

Jogging has always been an activity which has helped me physically and mentally and has been a real constant in my life.  I'm happy to say (type?) that I'm hooked on jogging and am unhappy to say the same about a certain benzo ...

As others have mentioned, keep your chin up and do what works best for you.  All the best!

Exercise definitely helps, but do it in moderation.  I know when I overdo it, the symptoms intensify and I have to wait them out.  But I feel better afterwards.

Exercise is a good plan to do every day. I try to walk my dogs 2x a day. It helps me feel better even if only temporarily. I have also heard it helps the brain heal as long as you don't over do it.
