Looking for help for tolerance withdraw

Hello, this is CT2017. I have been on benzos for 30 yrs. now. It all started in the hospital, when I was put on xanax for anxiety and panic attacks. The doctors never informed me of the horrific repercussions of this drug. I took it only as prescribed and 2 yrs. ago it not only stopped working but I starting having facial numbness and I lost all sense of taste. I have over 50 symptoms and not relief insight. Been to the ER, countless doctors and no one knows what to do for me. I'm hoping to get some support and insight from this Forum. My symptoms are so bad that I choke when I eat, can't take a shower because the water hitting my skin, is like getting hit with a bb gun. I've learned that my CNS, is hyperactive and I am in constant fight or flight mode. Does anyone out there have the same symptoms and have any resources that they would recommend? What is the common recommendation for someone who is already in withdraw but still taking the medication. Is a continuous slow tapper still recommended? What test can I take to check my neurotransmitters? Thank you!

Hi CT2017!

Welcome to the forum.  I'm glad you found us.  A lot of people realize (too late) that long-term use of these drugs can have undesirable repercussions.  I'm sorry that you're going through this.

You will find individuals here who are experiencing similar symptoms to what you are experiencing.  Hopefully, you can learn from each other's experiences and move forward.

Here is a link that might be useful for you.  It will take you to the 18-30 month group.

I did not notice from your post if you had stopped taking benzos or if you planned on stopping/tapering in the future.  Here's a link to the withdrawal support board (in case you are or are planning to withdraw).

Withdrawal Support Board

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative source on what to expect in withdrawal and recovery.  Dr. Ashton is an expert in the field. Section III explains and describes symptoms, and there is also a section with suggested taper schedules.

Please take the time to Create a Signature.  This will allow others to see where you are in the process so they can better support you.

Again, welcome!
