Want off Lorazepam

Hello blueWaters,

Welcome to Benzo Buddies! I hope your knee is doing well, I know from experience how difficult recovery from surgery can be.  I'm surprised that you were given lorazepam for such a long period of time for pain, but this happens quite frequently. Although you've taken lorazepam only since April, it doesn't take long for a physical dependency to develop.  Withdrawal from drugs like lorazepam is very different than withdrawal from opioids like Tramadol because of the significant changes the drug makes to your central nervous system.

A slow taper can help to minimize withdrawal symptoms. Generally, a reduction of no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days is suggested. I'll give you a link to the General Taper Plans for additional information.

I'll also give you a link to the Ashton Manual. It is an excellent resource about these types of drugs and how to withdraw. It was written by Dr. Heather Ashton, an expert in the field.

You've come to the right place for information, support and encouragement as you journey to be benzo free. Please do ask questions, we're here to help.

Best of luck. I'm also originally from T.O. and also working my way out of my unintended Ativan dependency.
