Help/Feedback on delayed onset withdrawal symptoms after completing taper

I completed a very long and slow taper from Klonopin with a switch to Diazepam. After 10 years use and many attempts to taper I started last year at 10mg Diazepam and slowly reduced each month by either 1mg or .5 depending on how I felt.

I was down to 1mg and that was causing me to lose sleep, feel very restless, a also lethargic during the day. Finally I decided to just drop the last 1mg. The first week went fine. Some brain fog but my energy was back up and it felt tolerable.

Now, the last few days it seems the usual withdrawal symptoms are creeping backing in- anxiety, depersonalization, brain fog, insomnia, etc. I would still call it tolerable and manageable at this point but am concerned it will gradually get worse and back to the level where I need to go back to a low dose of Diazepam.

Has anyone experienced this after finishing a taper? And, if so, was it temporary setback and got better?

I am stuck here - I am off for about 10 days and feeling ok, tolerable, but getting worse. If it gets much worse I will have to go back on a low dosage and deal with all the fatigue and lack of motivation and energy it causes.

I don't have any experience with valium but I am tapering Librium and Ifeel every single cut. I am very slowly tapering about every other day and just to cut 1 mg it takes me about 24 days so I think 1 mg of valium is a long long jump so it is not surprising that you would  have quite a few symptoms especially since it takes 200 hours to completely leave your system. At this point it is really up to you if you want to try to tough it out or go back on low dose and taper again. I can't tell you if your symptoms will get worse but if  I had to guess I would say no, that you are in acute w/d and I wouldn't think it would get any worse. But it might not get any better for a while either. The first month is the hardest when  you jump. If it were me I would go back to .75 or maybe even 1 mg and resume a slow taper especially if you need to function. Just my opinion of course.

Thanks- toughing it out is not an option right now- I couldn't handle that for more than a day, you can't function. I am back on 1 and going to try that for a while then do much slower cuts from there- thanks for the response, good luck on your taper

Acute withdrawal can last about 4-6 weeks, I've read. It's not really delayed onset because Valium is so long lasting that symptoms show up after it leaves your system which can take awhile.

Thanks- did you find the liquid titration to be more effective then straight taper?

I was doing a straight taper inDec and Jan but had to move to a liquid taper in Feb because symptoms were so bad. Once I went to a daily taper things got better. I don't know if you were talking to me but since Librium and Valium have similiar half lifes I would think the taper would be similiar.
