Greetings;

I have joined this forum b/c I have been on Klonopin for close to 10 years.  I took this medication b/c I was having such severe anxiety I couldn't get out of bed.  It served it's purpose but oh my....I am having issues getting off it!  I tried tapering down and it failed, but now I'm determined to NOT be on this medication and so will taper down again and wanted support.

I am currently tapered to 1mg (was at 2mg) of Klonopin and I'm about two months into the tapering.

I just need a support system and I need to hear success stories, and I need and want to help others.

Thanks much

Hello, MMouse :) - welcome to BenzoBuddies!

Good job coming down so far already - that's a lot of progress. It certainly can be tricky tapering off, but you've come to the right place for tips on how to be more comfortable during the process. :thumbsup:

I'm so glad you decided to join the forum - you'll find plenty of information and support here. Our members have gone through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, so you'll be able to connect with others who understand what you're going through.

Here are a couple of links that may be a good starting place for you to post your questions.

The Ashton Manual is an authoritative resource on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days - some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

Hello MMouse,

Congratulations on your progress but would suggest that if you have tapered by 50% that quickly, you should slow down by a lot.  No intent to frighten you but you need to be more gentle with/kind to yourself.  It takes a while for the brain and nervous system to restabilize after the withdrawal of artificial/chemical interference and you need to wait until your instincts tell you you are able to make any further cuts.  I would imagine that you are having nasty withdrawal symptoms at the moment - that would be because of your severe cut.  You have, however, persevered so you definitely have the will and the strength to do this - but don't be so demanding of yourself!

I can say this because I have done it to myself twice now in 17 weeks and suffered serious setbacks both times, the 2nd of which I am only just recovering from now.  We can't all be super-heroes, much as we'd like to be.

Wishing you patience and peace,

Wynne
