VERY CONFUSED ABOUT TAPERING VALIUM, ZOLOFT

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm very confused about what to taper first -- the 7.5mg of Valium or the 12.5mg Zoloft.

I decided my 72 mpg of Gabapentin (36mg 2x per day) has to go first because of the severe gastro problems I've developed from it.

SA website says to the Zoloft first but they recommend tapering 10% a month. It will take years for me to get off this if I do it that way....plus I don't think my doctor wants to prescribe my Valium that long and I feel the longer I take the benzo, the worse I will get.

How do most people here taper from 7.5mg Valium. I'm taking 2mg am and 5mg pm.

Do most use the Ashton Method (which is outdated), do you do 10% per month, or do you do down every one or two weeks by .5mg or .25mg per week?

I'd like to know what works for most people. Thanks. I want to wean the Valium afte the Gabapentin, only because in NYS it's hard to get doctors who want to prescribe benzos. My PCP is handing all else. He will not prescribe Valium.

Thanks.

Please reply to the post above is you can....

But the other question is: if I wean the Valium before the Zoloft, what is the best way to wean 2mg of Valium I take morning and the 5mg of Valium I take in the evening?

Should I wean the 5mg first? If I do that, I'm concerned about my quality of sleep. If I wean the 2mg, I'm concerned of effects of withdrawal I might incur as it decreases.

Please....I'd like help on this.

Thanks.

I have found for me personally that it hasn't mattered which dose I'm cutting as the long half life of diazepam seems to cover any issues.  I really haven't had insomnia much except when I've cut to rapidly.  :)--V

Thanks. Did you cold turkey off 120mg of Oxycodone? Wow! How long did it take for you to recover?

I weaned rapidly in a few weeks time off only 22 mg of Oxycodone.

Congratulations to you!

Yes I did the c/t of oxycodone while simultaneously reducing valium. I would not recommend it to anyone lol.  It took me a good 6 months to get over the oxy withdrawal although it was difficult to distinguish which withdrawal was causing which symptoms.  :)--V

How are you reducing the Valium? Are you splitting doses am and pm or taking it once a day?

I'd love feedback from other people on whether they split doses during the day or just take it once a day.

:)  Hi there,

You are on the same 2 drugs I'm currently on.      :highfive:

About the Zoloft I personally can not imagine you still get something out of 12.5 mg a day. I'm sorry but I really can't. I'm on 75 mg myself and been on 50 mg for years. If I would take 25 mg I might as well just throw it with the garbage. Just throwing that one out there so you would know 12.5 mg of Zoloft is an extremely low dose.

Concerning the Valium. Anywhere on from 10 mg I decided for myself to do 1 mg a month. I just do the cut each month. It was already hard if I had to come down from 15 mg to 14 and my last cut from 11 mg to 10 mg was extremely tough. I see in your signature you are about doing the same but you cut 0.5 every 2 weeks. I like to dose 2 times a day and keep the dosages equally the same. I wait a very long time before I take my first dose of 5 mg, then I take my second dose about 5 to 6 hours later. This might not be the best case scenario but it works for me. Best case scenario I think would be to leave 12 hours in between dosages. But this is not always feasible.

Thanks fir your feedback.

The reason I'm so confused is so many people say different things. I know I'm on only 12.5mg of Zoloft, but I was on 10mg Paxil since February, changed to 25mg of Zoloft, then went to 12.5mg  about a month later. SurvivingAntidepresssants.com is prettty insistent that even if I'm on 12.5mg, I should still cut 10% a month. If I do that, I'll be weaning off longer than my whole experience if anti-depressants.

I don't do well with meds. I'm 4'11" and weigh 100lbs. My neurologist said I can just stop ny 100mg of Gabapentin, but when I halved the capsule, I went through terrible burning and sxs...so I weaned to 36mg 2x a day and my next cut will be 23mg 2x a day.

Benzo buddies suggest weaning off the benzo first. SA say the AD should go first. I'll talk to my doctor. I want to do the Gabapentin first, then maybe the benzo, then the Zoloft.

But I didn't know how to split my 2mg of Valium in am and my 5mg at pm to help me sleep.

Comments please. Thanks
