How do I calculate a taper for 1.25mg of Valium during the day and 3.75mg of Valium and night for sleep?

 

I have a scale but I'm lost as how to calculate the reductions...

 

Also, what can I take for SLEEP if I'm weaning off Valium at night?

If you're using a 5mg pill, you'd weight the intact pill.  Let's say it weighs 0.200 grams (200mg).  1.25mg (your day dose) is 1/4 of 5mg, so you'd weight out 1/4 of your pill.  That would be 0.050 grams (50mg).  Your night-time dose would be 3.75mg which is 3/4 of 5mg.  So you'd weigh out 3/4 of your pill.  That would be 0.150 grams (150mg).  Make sense?  Obviously, you'll need to weigh an intact pill to see what it weighs, and if you're not using a 5mg pill, then the calculations would be different.  Send me more info if you need to (e.g. intact pill dose, intact pill weight).

 

What to take for sleep when your tapering valium?  That's an excellent question.  Unisom (doxylamine) worked the best for me, but it didn't work well until I was completely off benzos for a few months.  Now it works very well (but I don't take it very often).  Diphenhydramine - the active ingredient in Benadryl and most other OTC sleep meds - may also help.  I didn't try many prescription meds for sleep.  I tried trazodone, but it didn't do anything for me but make me feel super groggy.  I think some people have had some success with it.  That's a good question to throw at the insomnia thread.

There's not enough info here.  What are you trying to do?  Do you want to taper from 0.5mg Restyl (Xanax)?  If so, do you want to taper doing a cut and hold or doing a micro taper.  Solid or liquid?  What size pill are you using?  Many many options here.  You'd be best served doing a little reading in the forum to see what others have done, and how it's worked for them.  If you need help with a specific calculation, I'm more than happy to help.

What are you trying to do?  I made internet friend in UK. She told me to find help in this website to quit. She was also taking Restyl and she quitted last year. I told her I get anxiety when I try to stop but she told me to ask here method. Is it possible to quit it without anxiety? Will i get withdrawal?

Restyl = Xanax = Alprazolam. If you were taking 0.5 mg of Restyl this would be the equivalent of 10 mg of Valium. Best case scenario for most and in most cases is to do a crossover to Valium and do a slow and steady taper. Other people say they feel better with just doing a very slow cut or taper off of their original drug (in your case being the Restyl). For me personally it goes much smoother and easier on Valium because of it's much longer half life and acting which makes it "supposedly" easier to withdraw from.

 

Will you get withdrawals ? You could be lucky and almost feel nothing when doing a slow taper, it could be much less pleasant, again nobody knows. Way too many factors to hold into account. How long did you use it ? Just way too less information just like badsocref said to answer your questions.

 

Is it possible to quit without anxiety ? No, brother ! I'm sorry, we are not living in Utopia ... There will always be some anxiety when quitting or withdrawing even if it's just you making it up in your head because you're doing and starting the taper. If not you are a super human being. Even combat vets and soldiers get scared when withdrawing. I hope I have been of some help and service to you.

Solid/Liquid refers to the type of taper that you want to do.  A solid taper is done by weighing out successively small amounts of a pill.  Then you simply ingest the pill fragments like you would a regular pill.  A liquid taper is done by 'dissolving' a pill into an appropriate liquid, then drinking successively smaller amounts of that liquid.  Both are popular methods.  Both work.  Best to pick one method (solid or liquid) and stick with it.

 

Is it possible to not have anxiety?  Sure - some people don't get anxiety when they quit these drugs.  The people in this forum did have a problem withdrawing.  You may be one of the lucky ones.  Let's hope so.

Valium is sleeping tablet. I did not know it is Benzodiazpine. Why did doctor give sleeping medicine for gastro problem? But it got solved also. Maybe it solved on its own? But how can 0.5mg Alprazolam = 10mg Valium. I never feel sleepy on 0.5mg Alprazolam. Maybe you mean 0.5mg Valium = 10mg Xanax/Alprazolam?

I don't have that accurate scale. I have to check on Amazon. If I use liquid method, how do I dissolve it? I just tested dissolving in water. It does not work. I can get apparatus to measure in ml but how will I cut and hold accurately from measuring cylinder? Do I have to use pipette and beaker?

Your correct that it will not dissolve in water.  But it can readily be dissolved in a tiny amount of vodka (alcohol) or propylene glycol, then diluted with water.  You simply drop the tablet into the solvent, then dillute with water.

 

All you really need is a 1ml and 10ml oral syringe, and a glass jar with a lid for mixing and storage.

 

Note that only a tiny percentage of your tablet is actually benzo; the rest is inactive ingredients such as binders, fillers, colorants, etc.  The med will dissolve, but there will be insoluble inactive particulates remaining.  Don't worry about them.

OK Builder Sir I am getting you. I can try Propylene Glycol because it is easily available in chemist shop. Liquor is no no because if parents find out I am in trouble. Syringe is also easily available. PG is very powerful solvent and safe for human consumption. I think it will dissolve inactive ingredients, most carriers and enteric coatings also. This is good suggestion Sir. I will try this tomorrow only (today is Sunday). But my question is how much should I cut? %/volume? Also one more question I am having. I asked LeslieAsh Senior Moderator but she is not replying. Who is owning this website? America Goverment?
