I went to the hospital and checked in to help with my taper. They rapid tapered me off not believing totally that my symptoms were caused by interdose withdrawal. The tapered me off of Ativan in a matter of 3 days and today is my first day benzo  free. I feel emotionally all over the place, out of it, confused, so anxious I feel that when I talk I'm stumbling over my words and talking faster than normal. Numbness in my face and arms... this isn't fun. Please tell me this won't last long!

They f**king do that. I had the same experience at Beth Israel. 6MGs Klonopin in 12 days. Totally f**ked me up long term.

Do you have a doctor that will put you back on the .5MGs? You might think about going back on it and starting a slow taper.

Sorry for your terrible experience.

I too went through interdose withdrawal when my general physician attempted to taper me off without knowing much about benzos. Fortunately, someone here was able to inform me that he had significantly undercut me in the sense of an equivalency standpoint.

The withdrawals were terrible, thankfully, I met with a psychiatrist and she sorted me out - I'm currently in the last week and a half of my taper and I'm finally starting to get some less severe symptoms (not nearly as bad as the initial cold turkey-like withdrawal I experienced prior), just aggressive anxiety; nervousness, etc.

I can't speak to your  thoughts but as for the rest of your symptoms, you're going to have a long journey ahead of you - as all of us coming off this poison.

Your brain is in recovery and it's building itself back-up from the ground-up - we've got to stay strong and not give-in to the thoughts and temptations to relapse.

It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better, but it will get better.

You're going to have negative thoughts, you're going to wish it was done and you're going to want to end it, but that is due to the amount of physical and emotional distress you're in.

You're strong and you can get through the negative thoughts and pain. You're going to be a better version of yourself when this is over with and you're going to be able to say that you were successful; you beat, undoubtedly, one of the hardest things to overcome. You survived something that completely had control of your body and mind.

Stay strong, keep reminding yourself during the especially bad times that it's temporary. It might take a while, but you WILL get better and you WILL be healthier than you were on the benzo.

I was considering going to an inpatient facility, my insurance will only cover 5-10 days!  I'm also on methadone... so it'll be *that* much worse.  I really sympathize... I can't find a doc who will even give me a *chance* to slowly taper or do the Ashton method.  I'm losing hope.  Today my muscles are super jerky and I feel extremely weak.. anxiety and depression is horrible.  I hope things get better for you though!  hopefully you can find a good doctor... I can't seem to.  I don't get how these places think a few days will fix us??  It's completely insane and irresponsible..  Good luck

I'm so sorry this happened to you, Sara.  But hospital "detoxes" are almost always like this, and your symptoms are normal for having been c/t'd off benzos.  My hospital detox lasted 4 days and was awful, and that's why I always recommend against it.  You will heal in time, though how long this will take can't be predicted in advance.
