I see a lot of posts about alcohol. What about tobacco? I don't usually smoke but my friend stopped by yesterday and I had a few cigarettes. My ears are screaming today and I don't know if it's from the Gabapentin, the tobacco or both.

It's not from the tobacco.

Good. I like having a couple of cigarettes when he comes to visit.

IN MY CASE.. IT IS The Tobacco...

I gave up in december last year when I crashed and started tapering, because I was just too sick to smoke... was 40/day... Easiest thing I ever did...

But I have had the odd few smokes after...

-one or two is managable..

-Half a dozen in a day will destroy me like a CT...

-Much worse when my WDs are bad... (post cut)

-For a regular smoker I could see it slowing their recovery significantly...

-Each to their own, But a Benzo specialist explained (quickly) that receptor regeneration is nearly halted from a cigarette...

we have "benzo specialists" now? what are their academic credentials?

if he did say what i have bolded above then you should walk away from him at the top speed of 10 kms per hour and never look back. i hope you are getting consultations from him for free for i am tempted to hang a "benzo specialist" board outside my house and reading random passages from alice in wonderland to every question my patients ask -- they will understand and benefit from my consultation while i will get richer.

smoking tobacco can slow down wound healing -- not that you will be able to notice the difference if it does. it's effect on receptor regeneration (i do not even know if recovery from benzo damage involves any "receptor regeneration"), positive or negative, is questionable. at the worst, it can marginally slow down "receptor regeneration" -- not nearly halt it.

receptor regeneration

receptor regeneration? I'm going to have to google this one.

I'm back and feeling totally f**ked. I did not need to read the shit I just read. F**k me.

Go buy a carton, do what u want... It was a heads up from my personal experience...

He is a Dr that specialises in addictive medicine and teaches as well as consulting for our states capital Detox centres and hospitals.. His particular area of resurch and interest is benzos... -we chatted on benzos out of mutual interest... -Ashton speeds and conversions, -lots of stuff..

-I happen to have seen him for opiate related info...

I find your reaction rather immature (yet again), to say the least...

If you think smoking is going to help you, -GO FOR IT..!!

-you dont need my permission..

This was the first "google" result of many....

Incidently Dr Rowan has been with me from hospital days, post accident, and recently reffered me to Dr Finn, of whome I spoke... -My continued relationship with him is not for you to dictate or advise on...

You may wish to read a little more before you "hang that sign up", reduce your assumptions, and probably learn to write without the childish language...

But "your" thread... -have at it...

:)

cantfly, i don't smoke. i used to chew tobacco (betel quid with tobacco to be precise -- a south asian habit) but i quit 1st week of may, this year, after i woke up from a 4 month long depression.

this dr. you speak of, the benzo specialist... he sounds very educated. next time you meet him, do tell him that your friend in BB, vineet2, said that neuroreceptors cannot regenerate and that he should stop lying to his patients. tell him also that vineet2 isn't a doctor but he also isn't an idiot. maybe childish -- possible -- but not stupid.

also, cantfly, i never said smoking helps "regeneration of receptors." i said smoking is doubted to "nearly halt regeneration of receptors" (if neuroreceptors do regenerate at all).
