I certify that the following statement applies to me.

“Benzodiazepines taken as prescribed have greatly harmed me or my loved ones. I/they have experienced some or all of these symptoms as a result of taking this class of drug for longer than several weeks: increased (or rebound) depression, anxiety, or insomnia which was worse than any baseline symptomatology, cognition/memory dysfunction, agoraphobia, digestive issues, nerve problems, movement disorder, sensory issues, psychosis, paranoia, rage, balance problems and/or other problems. I know benzodiazepines either caused these issues for me or either greatly exacerbated them over time. Tapering was/is/ or seems extremely difficult for me. I was never given truly informed consent about these drugs by my prescribers. I strongly support the passing of Bill H. 3594 An Act Relative to Benzodiazepine and Non- Benzodiapine Hypnotics”.

Sounds great, but I would drop "truly" from "truly informed consent". It makes it sound like some inadequate attempt was made by the docs to warn us, when in fact there was zero attempt.

I'm crying now as I write this, but it's taken a long time, and we have to get people to understand the dangers of these drugs. Welcome Terry!  This is so very important.  If this Bill passes, it could help pave the way for many other States and countries.  Reading doctors' support does bring tears to the eyes, doesn't it?  I did also post the info I posted here, in the News section, under Hope's thread over there.

I think the problem with changing the law is that too many Judges and politicians are on a benzo or have family members on benzo's  -  I think we are a bridge too far at this point.

REMINDER:  Benzo Bill H3594 will be heard tomorrow, September 12th, 2017 at the Massachusetts State House from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in hearing room B1.

 

We hope everyone in Massachusetts who is able will be attending and giving testimony in support of the bill.

 

Depending on wifi availability and logistics, there may be a live stream of the hearing here on Facebook. If that winds up being possible, we will post it here for you to view as soon as it's available tomorrow morning.

I've seen benzo petitions with over 1,000 signatures.  This Bill could pave the way for other States and countries.  You don't need to be in the USA to send your testimony.  I'm in Canada and I sent mine.  This happened to me and I'm telling my story every chance I get if there's even a slim chance it will make a difference, so this may never happen to another person.
