Quitting xanax

Recommended Posts

Posted

Hello,

I am wanting to quit taking xanax.  I having been taking xanax to sleep regularly every night now for around 4 or 5 months.  I started with 1 to 1 and 1/2 mg.  When I found out that xanax was highly addictive and dangerous I started cutting down my dose and am currently taking .25 mg at night.  I haven't really felt any withdrawal symptoms from tapering but I am a little worried about stopping completely and having withdrawal symptoms.  I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I should worry about withdrawal symptoms or not.  Any input and advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hello, akbenz :) - welcome to BenzoBuddies!

That's great - you may be able to continue tapering downward without any significant symptoms - not everyone is affected, especially after first-time use.

I'm so glad you decided to join the forum - you'll find plenty of information and support here. Our members have gone through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, so you'll be able to connect with others who understand what you're going through.

Here are a couple of links that may be a good starting place for you to post your questions.

When you have a chance, I recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, a guide for withdrawal and recovery. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days - some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

Looking forward to seeing you on the forum!

Thanks so much for your timely response.  I have been needing someone to talk to about this and did not know where to turn.  I am so grateful.  I can say that I am slightly worried about withdrawal symptoms although I hope that they may be minimal at worst.  I do hope that my worries are unfounded.  Thanks again for your response. I am feeling hopeful
