Just a quick introduction about my situation.

In 2011 I was prescribed 2mg of clonazepam for social anxiety  ( Initially 0.5mg but upped )

I am now taking diazepam instead of clonazepam but at a high dose 40-50mg per day and now decided I need to get off this medication.

I look forward to getting involved.

Hi Haribo.  Welcome to BenzoBuddies.

Glad you're here for information before starting your taper.  Knowing how to properly taper benzodiazepines after long term use can make a big difference in the ease of the process.

Here's a good place to begin posting to the wider membership:

  General Taper Plans

When you have a chance, I highly recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if I explain my situation if you could possibly advise by your own personal experiences and knowledge.

I was prescribed clonazepam back in 2011 at 0.5mg per day for social anxiety which my gp quickly increased to 2mg per day.

After around 2 years my gp retired and I now have a new gp.

Around 2013 my current gp told me I shouldn't be taking clonazepam daily and he then switched my clonazepam to diazepam, and quickly tapered me off the diazepam within a matter of around 3 weeks.

I couldn't deal with this taper and turned to purchasing diazepam without a prescription and have continued to do so since which my gp has no knowledge of.

I am now taking around 50mg daily and need to stop this and taper off.

My question is as a UK resident how will my gp react if I turn to him for help and what will happen?

I would really appreciate any advice you can give me.

Thank You
