One of my biggest symptoms since I jumped from Valium 4 weeks ago is swelling!  I feel like the pillsbury dough boy, but a lot less cute!  I have a fluid type swelling all over my body and a bloated belly!  This swelling is significant!  I have not seen any posts about this and wonder if this has ever happened  to others?  Why would this be happening and is there anything I can do for it??  Starting to wonder if I'm in kidney failure or something.  I HATE BENZOS!!!

This isn't something I've seen posts about.  I would have my doctor check it out.

Hi Ducky, in an earlier post you mentioned issues with back pain - I'm wondering if they gave you anything else for pain management on top of the Valium.

The reason I ask is that I was given gabapentin (during withdrawal, but it helped with back-related nerve pain), and later, Lyrica, for neuropathy from lumbar spine issues.

Both of these drugs caused my feet and legs to swell up horribly. Once I got off all drugs, the swelling went away completely. Just a thought, since so many of us are prescribed one drug on top of another.

Either way, as Challis mentioned, it's still a good question for your doctor.

Whole body edema has been a symptom of mine throughout taper and withdrawal.  I get it a bit still, but mostly resolved.  Hang in there.

Hard to figure out why this is happening? Good thinking on Neurontin and Lyrica possibly contributing to this, but I'm not on either of these medications.

I had swelling. It was all on my left side, mostly in my leg but also in my arm some.

Hey ducky,

I still wake up some mornings with sever swelling and I always look swollen right now. It's been happening all through my withdrawal and since I made the jump. It goes away and comes back. It's brutal! I believe it's the Benzos but if your really frightened then there's no harm in going to the doctor and ruling it out buddy. I feel for you  :smitten:

I had that real bad - just as you described.. smoothies, fruit, rice, soups, etc helped it.  Plus, lots of exercise.  I had to stay away from breads and still do..

A product called almased really helped me the most

Is Almased a tea?

No, it's an awesome diet product with lots of probiotics - you just mix the powder with water and use that as a meal.. and it really works well.. my best aid in reducing benzo belly, bloating, etc.. I buy it at Walgreens or at the Natural Grocers..  It is very well worth it!!!

If you are swelling that much, I would get into see a doctor.  While it could be withdrawal, fluid retention can also be a sign of heart disease or other serious issues.

It does go away, yes.  This is a symptom of mine that's hung on, but thankfully it goes away completely during windows, and returns in waves, but to a MUCH lesser degree.  I had severe swelling throughout my body during the worst of my taper and acute.  WR
