What problems do people have with white rice

Id just like to ask a simple question. What kind of problems do people have with white rice? I see many people say stay away from white rice, but no one really explains why. Please and thanks guys.

My wife likes the flavor of brown rice better (and she thinks it's healthier), so we often eat brown rice.  But I enjoy and have no issues with white rice.

Im finding that eating oats is reving up my anxiety and making my nerves dance like crazy. Problem is i HAVE to pick up weight and also have to avoid foods high in vtiamin b6 because I have vitamin b toxicity as well..... what a joke.  I cant touch potatoes or bananas or avos. Or brown rice (higher in b6). Now I am out of carbs... not sure what the solution is. do you think that If i eat white rice and feel this hyper anxious nerve tingling that I am setting my benzo recovery back or could I just push through and it will eventually go away as I heal?

 

thats why I asked, does eating irritational foods actually set us back or just make the process a little more unpleasant?

I've had no problems with white rice (nor brown rice, for that matter).  However, white rice is a high-glycemic food and many people avoid it due to the fact that it can raise blood sugar levels.  From a nutritional standpoint, brown rice is recommended.

My endo told me things like white rice, white flour, white potatoes are bad for me because they are simple carbs. Not complex. They turn into sugar. I use brown rice now. It takes a while getting used to it but now I like it. But I sure don't tell her about the candy bars I sneak.

White rice is perceived and processed by our bodies the same way as refined sugar.  It's high-glycemic and it triggers the release of insulin, a hormone that makes us fat.  High insulin levels are associated with obesity and whole spectrum of health issues, including heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.  If you eat white rice in excess, you might as well pour refined sugar down your throat.  Don't get me wrong, I love white rice.  But I only eat whole grain brown rice because it is unrefined/complex carbohydrate with low glycemic index, which means it keeps blood sugar at normal healthy levels.

I eat brown rice every other day.  I make 1 cup of it with a bouillon cube which gives it some flavor which then makes 2 cups.  I freeze it in single-serving portions and then cook it with some chicken or natural hamburger or some beef cut up.  I used to like white rice, but it was always with Chinese food, so some meat and veggies with it.  Who could eat just white rice?

Just know that white rice is basically quick calories. Sometimes you need that, sometimes you don't. My wife & I eat small batches of white rice after intense workouts to restore glucose levels.

 

If you are looking to 'pack on weight' I'm going to have to say carbs are not the answer. You are better off going with 'healthy' fats for caloric density - and finding things that are not terrible for you but still high in fat & don't have b vitamins will be a trick.
