Has any one had Major surgery in the Acute phase of withdrawal?

Has anyone had a major surgical operation during the acute phase of their w/d/ . My surgery is not elective and can't be postponed.  Since there were no responses so I wondered if I was not clear. So of course one wonders if reinstatement is an option based on the fact that the surgery (not the anesthesia) will ramp up the withdrawal more than the acute phase has?

I am wondering the same thing as I have a back surgery next month for severe instability.  I am 4 weeks into this and am having severe withdrawals.  I am afraid surgery will ramp it up even more or prolong my misery.  But I think reinstating would be even worse and I never want to do the last 4 weeks over!

Thanks Ducky7....I saw your thread question and I have not been able to see anything else here on surgery. What I do know for sure is that even a benzodiazapine like Versed for induction is not an issue. You and I seem to agree our worry is how we will do post op while just being in the ACUTE phase is very hard and ramped up symptoms with surgery looming. I agree back tracking is no guarantee of help with symptoms going forward. Thanks for responding.

I don't see the sedation being an issue. If anything, the post op healing might take your mind off of wd for a while. I've never had surgery but I don't imagine a single dose of anything to knock you out will harm anything.

We were not talking about sedation...I am talking about four hours of general anesthesia for very complex surgery and question the effect on withdrawal symptoms ramping up even more because of my compromised situation going into the procedure. Looking for someone with experience rather than no experience and conjecture.

Hello,

There is a chance that surgery can ramp up symptoms but there also is a chance it will not.

I had major cervical spine surgery while I was on benzos and in tolerance (unknowingly). The surgery didn't make anything worse and I actually recovered very quickly and was back to teaching in two weeks.

I also had 4 shoulder surgeries at various times of my taper and recovery. My first one, on the left shoulder, was done while I was tapering.  I didn't feel worse but I didn't feel well at all during that time period. I had many withdrawal symptoms but they didn't ramp up after the surgery.

I had my first right shoulder surgery about one year off.  It didn't work, it failed and I knew it right away.  However, I don't feel it affected my recovery.  There followed two more surgeries to correct the problems and again I didn't have any withdrawal related issues.
