Hello, Grace :) - welcome to BenzoBuddies, and congratulations on being benzo-free!

Please don't worry about the burning - as terrible as it is, it really does ease up as your brain adjusts to being off benzos.

I was on Ativan too, for nearly six years, and when I got off it felt as though my whole body had been set on fire while being electrocuted. You were on a fairly high dose, too, and I'm not sure how quickly they took you off, but hospitals often go very quickly, and patients usually have symptoms that last well beyond release - they will ease up over time, as terrible as they are now.

I'm so glad you decided to join the forum - you'll find plenty of information and support here. Our members have gone through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, so you'll be able to connect with others who understand what you're going through and can tell you what has worked for them.

Based on the information provided in your introduction, the following links may be a good starting place for you to post your questions.

  Post-withdrawal Recovery Support

Cold Turkey, Detox and Rapid Withdrawal

When you have a chance, I recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative resource on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

Please take the time to Create a Signature. This will allow members to see where you are in the process, so that they can better support you.

Looking forward to seeing you on the forum!

A five week taper is too rapid for benzodiazepines.

You may have tolerance withdrawal.

Follow the advice of the senior moderators.

I have burning skin episodes - worthwhile going through all the information in benzobuddies to know you are not alone.

Good luck in your journey.
