4mg Xanax taper. Is this normal?

Been taking 4mg of Xanax for 4 to 5 years to sleep

Started taper at 3mg. No symptoms.

Went down to 2mg two weeks later. I'm feeling the difference and it's been difficult, but its by no means a horror story like the ones I've read on this forum. I'm holding for a month to be safe since I've tapered rapidly thus far.

I just recently went under a doctors supervision, and going for CBT. I didn't tell the doctor about the Aston method, but his recommendations for tapering follows the same methodology as the Ashton method which gives me confidence he knows that he is doing.

My plan is to taper by .5 my next cut. The doctor said he was fine with this decision but I could go as slow as .25.

So my question is, should I go slow to avoid/minimize the potential scary w/d symptoms or cut what I'm capable of? I've read that cutting at lower dosages can often be a harder journey down for some. I undergo tax season (I'm an accountant) in 4 months and I'm getting married in 9 months. My goal is to jump by the end of January as tax season is when Xanax was my lifeline. I know tax season will be painful without it, but if I can make it through, It will be the boost of confidence and demonstrate I don't need to be dependent on a pill. Ultimately, I'm going to follow instinct with how I feel and adjust cuts accordingly even if it does not go as I plan time wise (I'm answering my own questions). Am I experiencing a beginners luck? Has anyone had an experience like me? Looking for advice to continue my journey. Go slow or cut what I can handle?

Hello and welcome,

Yes you are answering your own questions  ;)

It seems to me that you're one of the lucky ones who might just sail through your taper.

I hope so.

Many people out there can just stop taking benzo with very little sxs.

Go with your gut. If it gets rough just slow it down. You have a benzo wise doctor and you have been feeling ok so far.

It can get hard the lower you go,  but that's not the case for everyone.

Try to read the succes stories instead of the horror stories.

Keep us posted and good luck!

Oh and congrats on your upcoming marriage
