Slow and Steady

Hello All,

I used benzos for about 4 years due to insomnia from an overactive thyroid. What should have been 3 months to adjust turned into years. I tried weaning over a year and a half but got hooked again. Been seeing a psychiatrist for 10 months and am on Trileptal and an antihistamine so I can sleep. I am almost off the Trileptal.  Just stopped it a week ago but last two nights I couldn't sleep and am panicky. Back on now. But I need some support as I am worried that I am still withdrawing. My Dr has nothing to suggest but staying on Trileptal which is causing my hair to fall out or go back on benzos!

Hello Lydia5  Welcome to Benzobuddies!

You will get plenty of support here.  If you have been on benzos more than a few weeks, they need tapering slowly.  Reducing your daily dose by somewhere between 5% and 10% every 10 - 14 days is the rule of thumb, you can go slower, whatever feels comfortable. The aim is to keep symptoms manageable.  I am not familiar with Trileptal  you might wish to post your concerns about this med on the other meds board.

I would suggest you read The Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides Tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

You will find some very valuable support and information on the forum.  Our members are happy to share their personal experiences with you and support you.. Please feel free to browse the boards and post questions to any of the dedicated threads.

I'll leave you a few links:
