Dr. David Juurlink: "There's no way 1 in 8 should be taking an antidepressant"

This link is from Dr. David Juurlink's (toxicologist, internist, professor at U. of Toronto) Twitter account today. He comments on a NEJM study that shows that 1 in 8 people over age 12 in the U.S. are now taking an antidepressant. If you read the conversation below, you'll see a woman who comments on her inability to get off her Cymbalta. Definitely worth reading both the comments and the embedded studies.

Agree with the professor. Big pharma greed wins, we all lose. Antidepressants can be as bad as benzos to withdraw from. See http://survivingantidepressants.org/ for a BB-like forum for getting off A/D's.

I often check out Dr. Juurlink's Twitter account to see what he's looking at and writing about, and I'm usually very impressed. I found the exchange of tweets to be very revealing with regards to different perspectives. Good dialogue.
