Klonopin free after 27 years

Hi, I am joining the forum to be of assistance to others who may be struggling with withdrawal. There is hope. I am 60 years old and was addicted to klonopin for 27 years. It was prescribed to me by a doctor for generalized anxiety and I was on a daily dose of 1.5mg. I found Klonopin to be of assistance at first but after that I just couldn't quit. I started to feel overall sick about 5 years ago and doctors couldn't find the cause. I realized it was tolerance withdrawal. The klonopin even with dose increases was not working anymore and I could no longer function as I had.  I decided then and there to get off this drug. I went through an absolute hellish 12 month dry taper and jumped Nov 4, 2014. I've been benzo free ever since. It's been a difficult journey but I can say at 3 years I finally feel the symptoms of withdrawal greatly diminished. I am enjoying great health and mental clarity that I haven't felt in years. I will get into more detail on my taper in future posts.

ForeverFree, I'm not exactly struggling with withdrawal, as I'm tapering down - I'm struggling, now, with having a lot of extra Klonopin 0.5 tablets and wondering if I should chuck them down the toilet or if I should keep them for rainy days as I always have in the past.

I'm at 1.5 mg, down from 2.0 mg  that I was taking for a couple of months. Before the 2.0 uptick, I was at 1.5 for a good long while - a year, anyway. Before that I had been down to 1.0 mg for about 2.5 years successfully, down from 3.0 mg a day - I had hit tolerance at that level and my psychiatrist refused to go any higher because of the risk of permanent memory problems. As it is now, my memory is suffering due to my prolonged Klonopin usage, but I hope to repair it with time. I'm only 32 and before the Klonopin I had the memory of a f... elephant.

Anyway, your story gives me a lot of hope, so thank you very much for sharing.  :) Good on ye for keeping up on staying free!!!
