Feel like I am going crazy from chronic lack of sleep

Hi!  Please help.  I am now 8 weeks of being totally off all my psych meds and the past 3 weeks have been horrendous.  I am terrified I am slowly losing my mind from the constant lack of sleep.  The w/d symptoms combined with the lack of sleep r making me feel extremely depressed, like nothing is real, my brain feels like it is full of cotton and I am unable 2 think properly, like soon I won't b able 2 communicate with anyone anymore and it is making my w/d symptoms much worse.  The last drug I came off was Remeron (8 weeks ago and Seroquel 9 months ago).  I was totally paradoxical 2 both of these and wasn't sleeping when I was taking them either.

Everything seems 2 b getting worse day by day and I am getting more terrified by the minute.  Nothing I do or eat seems 2 help.  Is this part of the w/d and will it eventually go away?  Is it possible that I could eventually go insane from this?  Please I need some reassurance from others that have gone through this and gotten better.  My mind at this point doesn't seem 2 be able 2 comprehend anything that is said to me as I am so terrified at this point.

Hi NeedHelp

I don't have any direct experience of the drugs you refer to, but plenty of experience with WD and chronic insomnia.

I am so sorry you are going through this.

Insomnia on its own is enough to create a whole cascade of symptoms along the lines you describe. At only eight weeks off, it is still very early in WD and insomnia is more or less a given for people in this phase. I went for a very long time in this phase, but in time it began to fade.

There are many excellent posts in the insomnia section advising people that the more anxious they get about getting sleep, the more difficult it is to get sleep and that your best option is to cultivate a "who cares" attitude and let go of fretting about it. That's what I did and after a period found myself drifting off more often than not over time - and, after a period of that the naps & dozes began to join up to form more regular sleeping patterns. I'm easily on 6-7 hours a night now.

All the best :)
