HOW DO YOU USE A SCALE TO TITRATE TO GO 10% DOWN: CAPSULES?

I have a very good scalpel on Amazon, called Gemini 20.

I am opening up a capsule, but for the life of me, I lose so much of it when I try to put the substance into new gelatin Capsules. So much stays on the weighing pan.

It happens I'm trying to go 10% down on my Gabapentin. My doctor gave me liquid Gabapentin so I can do that easily with a BP syringe, but I hate the taste, I already have terrible acid reflux and drinking the liquid solution is awful.

I posted this here because I know many people are using scales to titrate down.

Thanks.

One is supposed to titrate Gabapentin at 10% a month. I'd like to do it the same time as titration grandson my Valium. I know people have advised against this, but I hate Gabapentin and want off. I'm at 100mg and if I titrate that first, it will take 10 months. I can't imagine staying on Valium that long before I titrate.

I am not familiar with that drug and why it is sticking to the weighing boat. I have used rice paper as my husband is a scientist and  we started using that for my weighing of pills. It is very fine and nothing sticks to it and that's what he uses at work.

I know you can buy it for cooking in large sheets and you could cut that up. We shape it into a small airplane, so that you can pour the powder out of the V shape in the front.

As far as the nasty taste goes, just put your liquid drug into some juice, like grape juice. That is very sweet and will mask the taste.

Is there anyplace I can upload a spreadsheet? I have a great one.

I go by the spreadsheet with a Gemini-20 scale. I put the capsule contents into a size 00 Gelatin capsule from Vitacost and measure it. Then I take another size 00 capsule, puts half the contents in for a 2x per day dose. I have to keep weighing the two pills to make sure their equal.

The math is done for you by the spreadsheets I have from Survivng Antidepressants. I'll see if I can find the link to it.. you might have to register with the site to get it.

So funny. I answered my own question....just shows how my brain is working.

I actually just found the spreadsheets a few days ago when I registered its SA.

This is just to address the problem of powder sticking in the pan. Amazon has a glass funnel (Borosilicate glass 50mm) that fits right into (size 0) empty capsules. The tray fits in the mouth of the funnel. You just pour it in and tap the tray on the sides. If you tray is clean and dry nearly all the powder will go in the funnel. Then just flick you nail on the funnel to make the powder go in the capsule. Easy peasy. I too have a Gemini 20. Its great, I love it. I am also working with 100 milligram Gabapentins and I am right there with you in the yucky side effects.

Hello everyone.

I have a question concerning accuracy.  I am down to 50mg 2 x per day gabapentin.  So far, I've removed the daily taper amount from the capsule by pouring the capsule into my measuring pan, measuring the mass and then removing the equivalent weight of powder to the milligram reduction I wish to do. Then, I put the remaining powder into the capsule.

Here is my question?  Does anyone know if the gabapentin medication is actually evenly distributed amongst the powder?  That is to say, If I pour out half of the powder, does this guarantee me to be removing half of the actual medication?  If the gabapentin medication is not evenly distributed in the powder, then I can't be sure of accuracy and this is my concern now?

Please anyone, I really could use some opinions or advise on this subject.

Thanks,

-RST

Yes, you can split Gabapentin capsules.

So why not just mix your liquid gabapentin with some friut juice, soft drink, or any flavored liquid to mask the taste?

Yeah, you can taper off with a scale, but its a whole lot easier to do liquid, especially if you have a scrip for Rx liquid.

Can't stand the taste. Having severe acid reflex and digestive problems. Dr gave me liquid Gabapentin that I tried with bd syringe...couldn't stomach it. It's either that or the benzos. Terrible benzo belly.
