What is this?! Is Extreme laziness part of w/d symptoms?

A few months ago i was quite energetic, but nowadays I feel extremely lazy and not wanting to do anything or get anything done at work or home (aside from physical fatigue I'm suffering from) and everything feels like an effort to me but it's not depression because I know how depression feels like, what is this?! Is this how I have grown to be, perhaps I have always been like this? Or is it just some transient withdrawal symptom? I hope it's the latter!

I feel like I cannot blame everything on benzo/benzo withdrawal symptoms!

Please assure me?!

"One of the most frequently overlooked symptoms is the onset of adrenal crashes. This is when the body undergoes a massive loss of energy, resulting in extreme fatigue that may incapacitate a person." I believe this is withdrawal fatigue. If you were not like this before I'm confident it's wd. I've had this continuously since my jump. You are not alone.

Thanks RedSky! Wasn't aware of this and need to do some reading because I'm in the same boat and it's ridiculous!  :-[

It's just another symptom on a long list that takes time to heal. It seems loss of motivation is part fatigue and part mental symptoms - inability to feel joy or satisfaction from life. It makes sense to feel "lazy" when we are struggling in so many ways.

It could be a mixture of adrenal fatigue and some depression . I am pretty sure that's what it is for me anyway everyone's different. Make sure your getting enough b vitamins in your diet.

Thanks Red Sky for your reply.

I have been like this before during my 10+ years on benzos and ssri's, more specifically during the last 5 years on these drugs, to the extent that I was compelled to add powerful stimulants such as Concerta, Provigil/Nuvigil to my combo on a daily bases because I wasn't able to get up from bed and start my day except with a high dose of these stimulants and/or get through the afternoons crashes!

So hopefully it's not me who is just like this!

Do you recommend anything to overcome this laziness/fatigue?

I take loads of synthetic B vitamins, do you suggest any specific B vitamins, specific formula or specific brand?!

Thanks

I started experiencing some symptoms like this once I hit tolerance from benzos. (while I was still on them) That is common and it makes sense because benzos essentially dampen the central nervous system. It's like living life under a heavy, wet blanket. Unfortunately nothing has worked to help me with the fatigue. Many say regular exercise helps over time. But how to motivate with so much fatigue?! For me, exercise increases other symptoms like fight/flight - chemical terror. I believe all we can do is gently remind ourselves that all these weird symptoms will pass once we heal and it just takes time. And to try not to beat ourselves up about it. It's hard to accept there isn't anything we can do to help ourselves heal faster.

PS. I have read that people recovering from benzos should avoid vit D and B supplements. And any herbs or supplements that work on gaba. They can intensify symptoms and make recovery longer.

Yeah i couldn't workout for reals until month 11 because what you described would happen to me as well as other symptom flare ups. I dont take any b vitamins i just meant eat foods high in vitamin b. The only exercise i could manage was walking .

I am a little behind you benzo calamity and i felt energized a few months ago to but have been back in this fatigue cycle for the past 2 months .I am positive it is just a part of recovery and will go away again in the next few months.

I'm glad I'm not alone with the over-stimulation of exercise. I might be able to walk if I wasn't crippled by agoraphobia. I know that will go away too as I didn't have it before wd. I'm sorry you two have been suffering for over a year.

Even herbs such as Ginkgo Biloba and Bacopa which are known to upregulate gaba receptors?!

Oh RedSky I can't exercise at all either, it makes me tremendously sick. I did try to take vitamin B but the reaction was the same. I may try again, not sure when as the last time was so bad and don't want to be inflicting it upon myself. Hope your energy returns for you soon  :smitten:

I don't know about Ginkgo and Bacopa honestly. I think there is a list of what to avoid in the Ashton Manual. For a long time I was desperate to find something, anything that would help alleviate even one symptom of this madness or make me heal faster. I've learned that if there were such a thing everyone here would know about it. After trying some things myself and having them backfire I'm paranoid about taking anything that could make this suffering more intense. Have you checked out the supplements thread? http://www.benzobuddies.org/forum/index.php?board=110.0
