Are withdrawal Symptoms linear?

I have managed to get down to .5mg from 2mg which I was on since beginning of year. Xanax was used for many years maybe 5+ before that. I am now at .5 and I feel more symptoms and have decided to hold for another week or 2. Usually I can get away with 2 weeks before another drop. I talked to my doctor and she said this is normal at this stage to struggle a bit but she feels I am doing pretty good so far. I asked if this will just get much worse and she said not necessarily as this could be the beginning of peak withdrawal symptoms for me. So I am curious as I keep dropping down will it keep getting worse or is there breaking point such as where I am now where you are experiencing the worst it will get? I imagine many of you would say it varies by person, but curious if anyone had a similar experience where a dose hit you harder than usual(Almost a wall) and the following doses were easier or at least the same in severity.

Once the drugs are cleared from the body. There is no direct mechanism of withdrawal. Everything else is a re-regulation which has many factors, both chemical, emotional and environmental.
