Does one dose of gabapentin per day hinder benzo recovery?
Posted
First of all, how much is the dose? I'm on 100mg per day, liquid. 50mg in am and pm. I hate the drug, but I need to get off one drug at a time. First it will be Valium, then Zoloft, the Gabapentin. Gabapentin wean should be 10% less a month. I heard it's the WORST getting off of. If your not on it, I'd say STAY AWAY.

I take 300mg bedtime only. I was on it before I ever started on xanax. Oncologist gave me xanax for what reason? I don't know. I had breastcancer.

I'm daily microtapering gabapentin right now.  I'd say it's very much like a benzo withdrawal in my experience.  I'm down to 180mg per day and this taper has had two episodes of major discomfort so far; one where I stabilized at 300mg for almost a month and one where I stabilized at 216mg for about 10 days.  I am basically tapering with an eye to my symptoms and very carefully managing it.  I hope to be off of it completely by Christmas.  I take 90mg AM and 90mg PM.  My slow taper may get more difficult the lower I go, but I am hopeful it won't.  I think with gabapentin that there is a different kind of effect in tapering because it is not known to donwregulate receptors in the same way as the benzos do.  Therefore, I am hopeful it won't be a protracted withdrawal once I jump.  It's all so hard to say in that it is very much an individual thing.  If I had it to do all over again, I think I would have tried to survive my post acute hell a little longer and see if relief arrived as opposed to going on the gabapentin.  Anyway, doesn't matter now!  But at the end of the day, I'd look long and hard into the mirror and really ask yourself if taking any psychoactive medications are worth the price one may have to pay down the road.  In my opinion, it's just not worth it.

Respectfully,
