Hey, I'm pretty new here.  My ex gf has posted a lot on here on my behalf - helpingmyex311, trying to seek help for me.  I finally decided to join myself to get some help - posted a couple times.  If you've read her posts you know I was on 4 mgs of Xanax for 9 years. Switched to Valium to taper a year ago. Weaned from 70mgs of Valium to 20. Can't tolerate Valium or Klonopin (I tried switching from Valium to Klonopin last month). Want to switch back to Xanax (since it's my original benzo) and finish my taper. I know this is against the Ashton Manual. I just cannot tolerate Valium any longer. I cannot metabolize it....this was also confirmed by a genesight test.

I would like to go back to Xanax and get 4- .25's a day and break them up to avoid interdose withdrawals or use a liquid titration. Any help anyone? I don't know how many times a day I should dose in order to avoid interdose withdrawals? I've heard dry cutting the pills is best until you get really low?  I'm just really scared about interdose withdrawals with xanax, but I'm desperate at this point. I can't continue on Valium. Thanks

Welcome and glad you joined.

20 mg Valium is = to 1.3 mg xanax( according to the eqivalency calculator). So you might want to start at 1.25 mg-splitting it up 4 or 5x a day.  You can split a .25 tablet xanax 4 ways easily.  Or you could titrate one of your doses to keep with the 10% maximum dosage reduction.  I would start at 1.25.

Hope this helps and hope some others drop by.

Hi Starcaster,

Welcome to BB. I also was on Xanax and as you can see by my sig added some Valium -- my docs suggestion....

I'm asking how you knew you couldn't metabolize Valium?  I'm starting to get some depression that is rough... is that part of the deal with non-metabolizers?

I'm sorry I can't be of help about switching back to Xanax as I don't have any experience with that.  I do know that for me the Ashton equivalency table was off.... so be sure to find out what the right switchover could be for your body.... It's unfortunate it's not an exact science but it isn't....

Wishing you well on this journey!
