Sweat smells like ammonia

Ok, strange question, but my sweat over the past year increasingly has a pungent ammonia smell. All my shirts that I wear when I work out now have a permanent smell of ammonia. It seems to be getting worse now over 9 weeks off. I go to the gym 5 times a week as well as do hot yoga about 3 times a week so....I sweat a lot!

 

Should I be concerned. Has anyone else experienced this? Sorry if it's TMI:)

It's possible that your senses of smell and taste have been temporarily altered by withdrawal, and you may be experiencing hyperosmia.  My sense of smell was so altered that I smelled things that weren't there.  Others often aren't aware of these smells. This may be what you're experiencing.  If so, it's a temporary situation...

Hmmm. I have not tested this by asking anyone if they smell what I smell, but only smell this on myself and not anywhere else.

my sweat smells too - not like ammonia - like metal - seems to match the metallic taste in my mouth..... and i know its not my sense of smell because others smell it too......

Hey there, I did have about a month of the same thing and then it just went away.  After doing some research I found that many ExBenzo people have the same occurrence for a short period of time.  Hopefully it will pass for you soon, keep well.

Yes, I definitely had that! I'm 8 weeks off & doing REALLY well!

Yes, absolutely - A few months after I jumped, I began to exercise vigorously and I noticed I became the sweatiest guy in the gym, whereas I had always been just an average 'sweater'.  I tapered risperdal a couple of months after I began working out, and between the two drugs getting out of my system, I really stank like putrid chemicals, and it all definitely didn't seem like it had any business coming out of a human!

 

Ammonia was a major component of it all, for sure!  ..gross

 

All in all, it took about 10-11 months after jumping from clonazepam, before sweat lost the putrid chemical stink.. a few clothes did end up permanently tainted as well..

 

For a while, my right armpit would sweat profusely without cause, fortunately, it went away in the late spring, so I wasn't embarrassed in public!

 

So, yes, I had this too..  keep working out, and sweating it out, I think it would stay with us for years if we didn't work hard to sweat out all of that poison!!! Good job..

Ah yes, I remember the smelly sweat. Mine also smelled very metallic.  I decided that my poor central nervous system was in such an out of balance state that my body was reacting in a lot of different, strange and very unpleasant ways.  The smelly sweat was just one of the symptoms.  Luckily this symptom was one of the first to dissipate.
