Help for Our Son

I'm the parent of a wonderful son who desperately wants to withdraw from the debilitating effects of klonopin.  I want to learn as much as I can about the withdrawal process and what I, as a parent and supporter, should know and do to help him through this process.  He strongly encouraged me to join BenzoBuddies to help me better understand and appreciate the magnitude of the problem.  So here I am.

Hi concernedparent  Welcome to the forum.

We are always very pleased to welcome new members looking to support close ones going through withdrawal. Thank you for supporting your son.  Withdrawal can be one of the most challenging and frightening experiences that a person can go through.

Benzodiazepines should be tapered slowly.  It is suggested cutting between 5% and 10% of the daily dose every 10 - 14 days according to how the person is feeling.  We have a great community our members have been through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, they will share their experiences with you.

I would suggest you read The Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides Tapering and withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms
