35 years on benzos

Hi I am a new member and have joined to learn from the many posts and forums on this  site.  My main concern is my doctor tapered me off diazapam (after 40 years) fairly quickly and I  developed brain fog soon after and which has not lifted after one year off.  I am also suffering bad insomnia and my doctor put me on zopiclone which of course works but I will need to taper off it. The doctor says it is not nearly as bad as diazapam but after reading some posts I am not so sure.  The doctor also prescribed welbutrin for the brain fog.  After a week of welbutrin I am having anxiety/panic attacks so I have stopped taking it but now have to deal with brain fog and anxiety.  I am going to  see the doctor tomorrow but it is getting hard to know what to do.

Hi red72  Welcome to benzobuddies!

Congratulations on being benzo free, I am sorry you were tapered off too quickly. Withdrawal symptoms can linger for a very long time after withdrawal, they are temporary and will go eventually.  Zoplicone is not a benzo but it will need to be tapered in the same manner. It is generally recommended to taper no more than 5-10% every 10-14 days.  The goal is to minimize withdrawal effects.  It is important to listen to your body as well and adjust the rate if necessary.

We have many supportive and kind members here who will support you and give sound advice. Feel free to check out the forum and post to any of our dedicated threads.

I would suggest you read The Ashton Manual, It is a great resource for understanding the effect benzo’s have on our body.  It provides withdrawal information and includes a list of common symptoms

I will leave a few links:

If you would be so kind as to add a signature (history of meds/doses etc) it will help members give you relevant advice this link will show you how to  ”Create a signature”

Welcome aboard
