DO YOU HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH REMERON (MIRTAZAPINE) WHILE TAPERING?

I'd love to hear people's experiences with Remeron. I saw a new Pyschopharmacologist and he wasn't for dispensing Valium for my taper from .5mg Klonipen, which was dispensed by my PCP for surgery.  BUT...the Pyschopharmacologist did me a favor on our first meeting and prescribed sixty 2mg Valium...and he said it's the only one he will do. I have some 5mg so I think I may be okay.

 

He also disagreed with the Ashton Manual. He said .5mg of Klonipen = 7.5mg of Valium. What's true?

 

I asked him for Remeron because I read here that is was useful for sleep while people were tapering.

 

Please tell me your experiences with it if you have used it.

The first time I withdrew I used remeron. It was heaven sent in my opinion. I finally got some sleep and stopped having what I called 'hot flushes' completely. I didn't take much. I'd break a 15mg in half and take it at night. It was at the tail end of my taper, and I jumped not long after so I didn't have any issues stopping. It did really increase my appetite, though. I have used 5mg of Remeron  -- with some dosage adjustments -- since I started to get insomnia during withdrawal.  (Yes I cut and weigh tablets)  I was trying to use 7.5 but found it too stimulating and had read that the lower you go the more sedating it is.  I tried with 3.25 but found it didn't help with insomnia.  So the 5mg is good for me! 

Also from my experience the Ashton manual equivalencies were way off -- but there is a consensus that exact dosage calculations are very tricky with benzos due to their differences in how they work.....sigh  I found my equivalency was about half of what the Manual suggest but others' have had different experiences.

Seeking advice .... I have some Remeron but have only used it on occasion fro insomnia. It works great for that . I only need 1/8 th of. 15 mg pill , and even that makes me groggy the next day !

On the k to v cross. I had to updose , I crossed from .375 mgs k to 10 mgs V , it was the only way I could manage the cross. Not everyone has issues , I did , took me three months and it was super hard. k was very strong for me , so maybe that's why I needed more V . Everyone is different!
