Helping a friend

I joined this forum so I could help a friend who is desperately trying to get off of bentos. She was first prescribed Ativan 10 years ago and has steadily been increasing dosage ever since. She spent about 6 years on Xanax but eventually ended up taking 4mg of Klonipan per day.

She recently had to switch doctors and the new one wanted to taper her off right away and only gave her a prescription for half of what she needs. He won't give her any more so she's been forced to try to find them on the street.

I have downloaded the Ashton Manual and we're trying to figure out the best way to taper off, but in the meantime we have to find a doctor who will reinstate the 4mg of Klonipins until she gets more stable. We are in Washington, near Seattle. If anyone knows of a benzo friendly/knowledgable doctor in the area we would be grateful for any referals.

Hello, dtanaka. Welcome to Benzo Buddies! We're glad to have you here. Thank you so much for helping your friend. She will be needing a good friend to help her through this. I'm very sorry to hear about her new doctor. You are correct; she needs to find another doctor who is willing to help her stabilize on the 4mg of K her previous doctor prescribed. Finding drugs on the streets is unsafe and adds to her stress.

I'm glad you have the Ashton manual. You already have a lot of good information. I think you will find more as you read and ask questions here. I encourage you to go out onto the main forum to ask questions. The introductions thread gets limited traffic.

You may find these boards to be particularly helpful:

General Taper Plans

Withdrawal Support (during your taper)

Success Stories

Chewing the Fat (for asking about doctors)

You can locate our other boards with many more resources from our home page: BenzoBuddies Community Forum.

You will find stickies in bold pinned at the top of the boards. These threads contain information that our members have found to be particularly helpful. Feel free to start your own thread on the relevant board and ask any questions you may have about withdrawal and recovery. Just click on the board name and then click New Topic.

Finally, I'd like to ask you to read the stickies on our Community Policies & Documents and to Add a signature . Doing these two things will help you to connect with our community.

Best wishes to you and your friend,

Hello Gardener,

I'm new here also. Can you please explain what do you mean by "main forum to ask questions". I looked for it and couldn't find it.  :-[

Thanks so much!
