Klonopin user for 2 months time to taper.

Hello everyone, I have been reading this forum for a few days and have a few questions.

I have been on Klonopin for 2 months taking .05 to 1mg a day as needed.

I have consumed a total of approx 50 1mg pills.

I have 40 1mg remaining and hope this will be enough to taper.

Here are my questions.

1 Does your GABA receptors start to heal when you start tapering or when you are completely off?

2 By doing a slow taper does your brain actually become more dependent on the drug since you are still dosing.

3 I have been only taking .5 for the last 2 weeks and felt horrible for the first week but now not so bad. Is this my brain healing?

4 Since I have only been on Klonopin for 2 months will I be able to heal quicker than others that have been on it for years?

5 I have been taking magnesium 250mg during the day to help me relax and also take melatonin 3mg at night to help me sleep, curious if anyone does the same.

6 is Klonopin really 20x as powerful as Valium if so I am very disappointed in my doctor for not warning me of that.

7  what are the abbreviations I see like c/t sxs/

Thank you everyone here for any advice/help you can provide!

Hello, tankfrank :) - welcome to BenzoBuddies!

I'm so glad you decided to join the forum - you'll find plenty of information and support here. Our members have gone through all aspects of benzodiazepine use and withdrawal, so you'll be able to connect with others who understand what you're going through and can tell you what has worked for them.

It's hard to say how easy or hard a taper will be, but since you already had difficulties it's safe for me to say that staying on to taper may be a better bet than trying to go cold turkey (c/t). I did a rapid taper/CT and things are much better now, but it's been a rough road. I was on Ativan for nearly six years though, so tapering may be quicker and easier for you. :)

As far as getting more answers, the following links may be a good starting place for you to post your questions, where you can get responses from the wider membership, many of whom are also short-term users.

When you have a chance, I recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative resource on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations.

For those who are currently tapering, a starting guideline is that the dosage not be reduced faster than by 5-10% every 10-14 days - some taper even more slowly than that. One exception: very short-term users of a few weeks or less may be able to taper somewhat faster.

Looking forward to seeing you on the forum!

Your situation is similar to mine.  Don't worry about the withdrawals you had when you did a 50% cut from 1mg clonaz to .50, the same thing happened to me for about three days and I was fine.  Although everyone reacts different I would stay @ .50 for a week and try another 50% to .25 and see how it goes.  We are both fortunate that we havnt exposed our GABA receptors to prolonged heavy doses so that a big plus for faster recovery/faster taper...eventually you may want to try the titration method since cutting the pills down to 1/8th is not accurate...  glad u found this site..it has helped me soooooo much!  g/l
