Thanks so much for posting this, J - this is exactly what happened to me.

I was given Adderall to 'fix' the depression from from Ativan, and the cog-fog from the Paxil, all of which I was supposed to take for life, even though it all started from extreme job stress.

'Aren't we lucky that we have these wonderful drugs now?', my doctor ask cheerfully. ::)

And I believed her, because I felt great for around five years, after which my whole life came crashing down. Never again.

Thank you very much for this article! It was quite interesting. The statistics are astounding!

I do wish so much that drug commercials would be banned from TV. My sister told me that our mother kept asking about Boniva after she saw a drug commercial on it. She wouldn't have even thought of it herself since she had dementia. I do wonder if the heavy drug usage in the U.S. would go down if that happened. People get hypnotized by the "happy" people in the commercials.

Thank you for this article!  We recently got extended health care through my husband's work and I am shocked that we are each covered for $50,000.00 per year :o for prescription drugs, yet only $1,500.00 each per year for dental.  I can only conclude that Big Pharma is behind this.  Does Big Pharma run health insurance companies??  We will be using zero of that drug coverage and asked to opt out of that portion, but cannot.  It's ridiculous.

I saw that issue in a bookstore magazine rack.  The covershot showing a man drowning in a bottle of pills was irresistible so I took a picture of it with my iPhone.  Would make a fine avatar for someone on BB.  Kudos to Consumer Reports.  At least there's ONE real magazine left.
