Do I have to MicroTaper?

I am at .5mg of Klonopin right now from 2mg. Had a steady on and off of what I believe to be withdrawal effects at each dose drop. .5mg seems to have brought on more of a light headed dizziness drugged sort of feeling. Manageable but just not comfortable. My plan was to go as low as .125 or even half of that dose and then drop. I see people Microtaper as well. Is there any harm in stopping after .125 or even half of that? Do people do the micro taper out of preference or is it highly recommended? I rather not draw it out too long as I need to be done with this medicine as soon as possible as it has caused  weight loss and breathing difficulty/aerobic capacity changes/heart palps. Just curious what some of your opinions are. Thank you.

I have never made it to below .5 but I would think getting to .0625 would be a good idea before jumping. You haven't been on all that long so you will likely be okay. If you don't want to drag it out just don't hold too long after a drop.

I have been on Xanax once a day .5 or less for at least 3 years before the switch to Klonopin. Does this factor into anything? I suppose I essentially crossed over from a fast acting to long acting benzo? You think the amount of time on Klonopin is the main factor or prior Xanax use is still in play?

I would think the prior use is also a factor. I personally would not rush it and would taper to at least .0625--I don't see any downside in that.

-SX guided.. you may not NEED to micro...??

I would see how your next cuts make you feel after several weeks. This will tell you what to do. Generally speaking, the lower you jump, the less likely you are to have symptoms.

none of these factors matter. the only thing that matters is that you've tapered off 75% in 4 months and weathered it remarkably well. as cantfly says, you need to carry on your symptoms based taper and you don't need to microtaper till you feel a cut particularly hard.

many would call your taper a "very fast" taper -- but it worked for you.

most who microtaper, in my opinion, do so only when they hit a "wall" -- i.e. they run into a cut which brings on intolerable symptoms and then they backtrack and micro taper off the rest.

I can't really speak about the lower doses because I've never been there, but most people tell me that if you go slow and get to a very low dose when you jump it should be pretty smooth.  A couple people I know personally went very slow for the last equivalent of 1mg of Valium and they've told me that when they jumped they didn't notice much of a change in symptoms.  As for micro tapering I've always preferred it.  Cutting and holding makes you feel really crummy for a while and then you recover.  With micro tapering I feel pretty much the same throughout the whole process.  The other good thing is if you start to feel bad you can hold for a few days until you feel better.  With cut and hold if you feel bad your only option is to stick it out till you feel better or go back up to the dose you were at before.

The reason I microtaper is because my med is in a capsule and that's really the only way to do it. I'm getting impatient though and my signature is wrong for the last couple days. I've started cutting faster. :(  No increase in symptoms yet, but if I get any, I'll dial it back some.
