I have bipolar disorder and was wondering if anyone here has the same diagnosis. I'd like to know what your experience has been with your other psych meds during and after benzo withdrawal.

I quit taking seroquel after two or three months off benzos and it caused some problems. I also tried taking one antidepressant, just one pill one time, and it caused a huge uptick in symptoms for over a week after. I'm afraid to try anything or change anything right now. I'm also worried that taking nothing is making depression and anxiety worse for me due to my illness. If you would prefer not to share your mental illness publicly you can send me a private message. Thanks in advance.

My sister is bipolar and uses the medication lamictal.  It helps her greatly with both mood and panic attacks(although she has never suffered benzo withdrawal).  That being said, for some people, lamictal is extremely helpful during benzo withdrawal, because it blocks glutamate (the excitory chemical in the brain that causes many issues).

Interesting. I didn't know that about lamictal. Unfortunately I had a severe allergic reaction to it and can't take it again. I'm really glad it works for her. Now I will do some more research about glutamate and bipolar meds. Thank you for sharing.

Yes.  Lamictal.  On it for 10yrs with bi-polar diagnosis.  I question whether I am or not at this point but sure not going off it.  This may have eased the taper.  My mood has been great.  Sorry you are allergic.
