I get terrible side effects 1/2 hour after taking 25mg Zoloft -- head pressure, face tingling, body aches. Is this usual?

If you are taking Zoloft, are these side effects from it?

Can I wean off Klonipen/Valium (Ashton transfer) and Zoloft at same time?

Thanks.

no this is not usual. if i were you, i would go back to my doctor and report. maybe you need a change of ssri/snri.

yes you can taper both (ssri and benzo). you can also taper ssri first or benzo first. all these methods have been tried with success by members here.

since you are having issues with your ssri, i would address it first though -- be it taper. you and your doctor would be the best judges of whether you should start another ssri/snri. i take an ssri to combat the side effect of my long term benzo use -- depression -- and thus intend to taper my ssri only after i have fully tapered my benzo. i would not have been able to taper my benzo without prozac! but each person is different.

I've tried so many of them and none of them did anything -- worst side effects. That's been my problem with drugs.

Tried:

Paxil

Seroquel

Fetzima

Elavil

Lexapro

I think my brain is fried because my psych was changing these meds monthly for awhile when I came back and didn't like them.

why are you trying them? primary complaint? and for how long? trying ssris/snris for how long and primary complaint for how long?

My pain management doctor insisted I get an anti-anxiety drug to help manage my pain. Most pain doctor in NYS want you to see a psych for anti-anxiety meds if they have you on opioids, since anxiety increases pain levels.

I stopped my Oxycodone because with new NYS laws, doctors do not want to prescribe them. My psych tried my on different anti-anxiety meds because each one they gave me I had side effects.

I don't do well with drugs except benzos...I finally stopped Valium 12/16, but I had surgery in March 30, 2017 and the surgeon wanted me to take .5mg Klonipen 2x a day two weeks before surgery and three week after. I'm trying to get off it. Klonipen is way worse than Valium.

I don't recall the dosage, as it was 16 years ago, but I took a single dose of Zoloft and unfortunately, about 5 hours later, had a severe panic attack and concomitant nausea.  This jolted me up from sleep, and I recall having to take some Dramamine to calm my stomach and chill out.

After this, I was afraid to try SSRIs ever again.  Previously, I had briefly tried Paxil, but it too created anxiety upon initial start-up (although less than the Zoloft), and I couldn't persevere long enough for such side effects to subside.

I know people who have done well on SSRIs and have had no trouble weaning off them, but they don't seem to align well with my body chemistry.  Hopefully this is not the case with you.

Thanks. Any feedback of others' experiences appreciated.

Zoloft. I tried one pill and had like every single common side effect, a few of the uncommon ones, and a couple of the rare ones. It sounds like you reacted poorly to it as well. I'd consult with your doctor before continuing.

Some people are able to push through some of the more mild to moderate side effects and are fine, but the tingling and body aches are a big red flag for me. After I stopped taking the Zoloft I experienced side effects for days. I felt like my skin was on fire, I had muscle burning and weakness, easily fatigued, night sweats, restlessness, increased anxiety, increase in panic attacks and their severity, nausea, diarrhea, increase in depression, BAD thoughts, vision problems, and some other stuff I'm probably trying to forget.

Anyway, like I said before, I'd talk to your doctor about you reaction to it. I'd say it's unusual. When I told my doctor's about how I reacted to it they were surprised and said they wouldn't try it on me again even at a lower dose.

I have been on and off Zoloft twice and had no problems, but everyone is different. It's to bad because it works really good for me :-[

I was on Zoloft for two years, gained 50 lbs in three months, felt numb, had heart palpitations, constant diarrhea the whole time,I was told by the doc to just taper down for two days then stop it and thats what I did,no withdraw symptoms that I can remember, I'll never take an SSRI again though,my doc now gives me lexapro,,,which I don't take and I find it funny that the information pages and side effect page is 3 times longer than the klonopin warning page.

My experience on zoloft before benzos: It gave me a lot of energy and I couldn't sleep.

My experience with zoloft after jumping off benzos: I took one 50mg pill and thought I was dying. It drastically increased all my benzo wd symptoms. I was shaking, tremors, sweating, severe depression, suicidal, paranoid, extreme anxiety.

For me it seems clear that it had a paradoxical effect because of benzo wd. I don't know if maybe this is also true for you or if maybe it's just not right for you at any time. I wish you luck figuring out what is best for you. xoxo

The thing that sucks about ADs is that they aren't "one size fits all" drugs like benzos are.

What might work fine for me might give others terrible side effects.

To take some of the guesswork out of it I took a GeneSight test (there are many with different names) to determine what ADs my body will metabolize best.  It came back with 7 "winners".

I did find out that Mertazapine wasn't a great match for me (3rd tier) so I tapered from that over just 3 weeks with no issues.

paradoxical effect? did you not know that SSRIs can induce a 2 week startup, during when your anxiety and depression intensify, before they begin to show their therapeutic effects?
