I'm new and wanting to taper off Librium

Hi, I'm new to the forum and wanting to taper off my Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) 5 mgs.  I have been on this stuff for 18 years.  Before that I was taking 10mg once a day and got off easily so I could have a child...no issues getting off it then.  I started back on it 18 years ago for headaches/jaw pain.  Was originally prescribed it for headaches back in the day.  I've been taking 5mg every night and don't crave anymore of it and never have.  I now am forced to wean off (longer story) and I've found a compounding pharmacy to do it at .25 decrements.  My capsule has powder in it and have no idea how to go about lowering that on my own.  5mg is the lowest dose you can get with Librium.  I'm fixing to start back on Progesterone for BHRT.  It works on the Gaba...so don't know what to do.  It was more powerful than this Librium.  Thanks for reading.

Welcome to BenzoBuddies, Lib.

5mg of Librium is quite a low dose (25mg of Librium is roughly equivalent to .5mg of Xanax), however, since it has been so many years of use it is probably a good idea to be cautious in tapering.

When you have a chance, I highly recommend that you take a look at The Ashton Manual, which is an authoritative source on what to expect during withdrawal and recovery, authored by Dr. C. Heather Ashton, who is an expert in the field. It provides a great deal of information that can be very reassuring during any stage of this process, including a list of common symptoms with helpful explanations on the reasons for their existence.
