Yes indeed! I have always eaten very healthy with my occasional favorite goodies  here & there, but since WD happened in my life over 2 years ago, I just feel better and find if I eat smaller amounts and really clean and light, things go better. If I eat too much, too late at night, or too much crap, I pay for it. It just seems to rev  things up for me.

I have chosen to be a vegan, and have noticed a big improvement in my weight and feel better all round.

Being a vegan can also help with mood, good for the environment and animal welfare.

It eases my conscience and is a great catch all way of eating for physical health and mental health.

The best thing I have ever done, being a vegan. (so far)

Hey Mlmagic..question: I am currently tapering off of Ativan after being on it intermittently for 10 years...am having some GI problems ATM and noticed the last few months I just can't seem to get my weight back up....after I started a keto diet about 6 months ago( before I knew about these w/d or what they were) now I am trying to get weight back by eating anything I can that doesn't upset things but I am struggling...any tips?

Hi Arty...well first of all good job for making the decision to end the benzo beast! I wish I could offer tips, but I'm in the opposite boat. In the last 2 1/12 years of being off, going thru wd, etc, I am now entering into menopause and trying to keep weight OFF. I hope you figure it out. I envy you, that you can eat what you want... ;D But I do understand.

Take care.

All through withdrawal and for the majority of the time in recovery I've eaten huge salads for lunch, watched everything I ate, exercised (walking) for hours every day (when I could handle it, that is), hoping that that would "fix" my blood pressure, which has always been highly (and frighteningly) erratic during and after benzos (I've made many mistakes, too). I hardly ate anything sweet. It didn't help one bit. I'm not saying that eating great is not a good idea. But here I was, eating the best in my life, and even when I did have low blood pressure, I never ate as cleanly as I did during this time. I've always been slim, so it didn't have anything to do with weight. And my salt is low on blood tests, so those weren't culprits. One time I even put loads of vegetables in a juicer and felt great. I did that for three days. But my blood pressure went UP. I stopped doing that, so afraid to do anything out of the ordinary.

Lately I just eat mostly what I want. I've finally realized that my wonky blood pressure has nothing to do with any of those. I don't walk for hours. Sometimes I do, but not every day. And if I don't, I don't get nervous that my blood pressure is going to go up. I realized it's the benzo that has caused the wild fluctuations, and the only thing that's going to help is time.

I am from New England, so we always ate fresh fish right off the boats. I used to eat meat at times but now for some reason, when I see it at the grocery store it makes me sick. Especially red meat. But then again I had numerous blood tests done recently and found out I have low protein. I didn't notice it one away or another. The best thing for me to do is exercise. It makes me feel good, plus it helps me sleep better, if I do not do it at night. So now I eat a piece of chicken or two every week.
