Insane brain zap/convulsions feeling?!

So I'll set the stage. I've cut down to .5mg clonazepam per day for the last 4 weeks. First week was hell, second a little better, third a little worse and 4th was amazing. Hardly any symptoms at all. Then at the end up of the 4th week, i was laying on the couch when this surge of electricity or something blast my brain. Honestly its hard to describe, felt like a convulsion or a seizure?! I've never had either but that's what I would imagine it being. Anyway, after that surge, I had a panic attack with heart palps, very tight neck jaw and upper chest. It was scary as hell. Kinda thought I was going to have a heart attack. Went to bed that night, woke up and had a minor panic attack with the shakes.

Has anyone else felt that weird surge like feeling before?

Hi,

I wonder if you are describing a very common "brain zap"..??

They come in all shapes n sizes, and while rather unpleasant, are harmless...

Often happen as one relaxes or is drifting off to sleep...

Havnt seen a thread on them in a while..??

Perhaps try a search, if you get stuck...

I get these zaps all the time when I'm about to fall asleep. It will happen once or twice but then I just focus on relaxing my muscles and letting my mind drift and then I fall asleep. They're really aggravating but harmless. It's mainly a brief loud BZZT in my ears right at the point where I'm really drowsy but not quite asleep yet.

I've definitely had those jerks or zaps as I'm drifting off to sleep, annoying as hell! However the one I got laying on the couch watching TV was really intense and lasted about a second maybe two. It was like someone put a taser on my brain. Needless to say, it scared me to death, even to the point of wanting to go to the hospital because of the after effects. Thanks for the reply.

Huh, that's interesting the way you described yours. Mine when I'm drifting off to sleep are like a jerking sensation. My body jerks and my heart rate speeds up. I wonder if they are the same? Maybe they are different for everyone?

The Ashton manual mentions this:

Return of SWS seems to take longer after withdrawal, probably because anxiety levels are high, the brain is overactive and it is hard to relax completely. Subjects may have difficulty in getting off to sleep and may experience "restless legs syndrome", sudden muscle jerks (myoclonus) just as they are dropping off or be jolted suddenly by a hallucination of a loud bang (hypnagogic hallucination) which wakes them up again. These disturbances may also last for several weeks, sometimes months.

I'll add that I'm getting these brain "zaps" too.
