Just about every tooth that has been worked on during my withdrawal has crapped out.  I've already had one root canal and an apicoectomy and now I need two more root canals, one for irreversible pulpitis and another because the tooth is crumbling apart under a new crown.

Anyone else have something like this happen?

I suffer from teeth issues as well which is probably my most prominent symptom.  I don't know why, but withdrawal for me has really been focused on my mouth.  Not so much as damage (yet!!), but more like nerve pain that is with me all day.  I pray that I don't do any real damage as I've always received compliments on my teeth and I took great care of them.  I'm somewhat sure I clench in my sleep so I habitually wear a night guard.  Do you wear one as well?

From what I have read, teeth issues are fairly common in withdrawal.

Hello BellaP,

Benzos affect the salivary system in the mouth, drying up the saliva thereby allowing bacteria to stay longer in the mouth. This can create all kinds of problems.  I had two crowns that got decay underneath them during withdrawal. My dentist is sure that the drug contributed to this. I had to have the tooth removed and implants put it.  Not a fun process and it cost enough to buy a small country.  ::)

I have nightmares that all my teeth just fall out. I too have had serious issues with my mouth due to withdrawal. I'm so sorry you are experiencing it too. My mouth is constantly dry, super sensitive, painful and cavities/decay. I'm terrified to go to the dentist normally and with all my mental symptoms it's impossible to go right now. Good for you for taking care of it even during this horrible time.
