I am eight months out from the medical procedure and drugs I was given that triggered my withdrawal. I was doing much better but currently I'm having a really awful wave. I would greatly appreciate someone pointing me toward an article or a written explanation of what causes waves. Understanding the bio chemistry of this would be very helpful to me.  Thank you very much.

I am really not sure, but I think a lot of supplements can cause waves. Also stress factors! But I guess it is different for everybody...

Waves are random and unpredictable as that is the nature of benzos but that is my humble opinion. I think the only things that can cause waves' are alcohol, 'rescue' doses and other psychotropic medications

Great Question!!  What is a wave?  We have all had them but can anyone answer what precisely they are.  If the body and mind is capable of a window for a period of time then why are they not capable of maintaining that window indefinitely?

If I have read your signature correctly it states you went off your benzo in 2000 with no withdrawal.  Then sixteen years later you had a procedure and are now in a wave?  Is that correct?

It is seven years ago that I got off of Clonopin with no withdrawal symptoms. Yes, cataract surgery with two doses of Valium and IV Versed started this whole thing for me. I know it sounds unbelievable. It's called kindling.

Did you ever drink in the past and been okay and then this Benzo made it worse?

after some years I would answer: Everyone and everything can cause a wave or weird symptoms.

So me feeling better for a few days then like death the next isn't a wave?

I am trying to understand the same thing. The last five days or so, I've fallen back into a wave of depression. I had one drink about two weeks ago. That could have done it. I had a cup of coffee a week ago. That could have done it. I just started my summer vacation because I am a teacher. That could have done it.

All I know is I'm quitting alcohol and coffee for the time being, even though my doctor friend said that drinking a half cup of coffee/day might help with the depression.
