Is it possible I hit Tolerance Withdrawal?

I've been on this forum a lot asking question. My signature shows my withdrawal from Klonopin but I never added that I was on Xanax up to .5mg or so maybe 5 to 7 times per week from at least 2015. Last December I was dealing with a lot of stress and the day after Christmas I developed the sensation of trouble breathing and dysphagia. I was checked out by many doctors and all of them said it was anxiety. I was even in the ER twice because I was sure something was wrong. Anyway, it was this that prompted me to be put on Klonopin and I was quickly upped to 2 mg divided into 4 dosages each day. It seemed to help until I realized that it seems the medicine was causing even more side effects. I started a taper and am now at .5mg. In the beginning I was good to drop dosage after a week but as I have gotten lower I waited 2 weeks. I have relied on just splitting a .5 pill multiple times. So far I am tolerating withdrawal effects. The effects almost seem predictable to the point where I can say, yeah this chest tightness and trouble breathing is probably the dosage drop as it happens  2-3 days in and usually improves greatly by the 14th day. So anyway, to make a long story short, could all of this that happened to me been tolerance withdrawal to the Xanax and in a way I have crossed over to Klonopin? If that is the case, is it safe to say I made it off of Xanax at this point? I know something definitely changed with me as I developed all the effects described above with the addition to being extremely sensitive to smells. I swear my eyes even seem blurry at times like the eyes are dry. I have had anxiety all my life, but these effects that developed last December are highly unusual. I did not suspect anxiety or anything benzo related and honestly thought I was having an asthma attack or allergic reaction of some kind. It was probably the worst panic attack ever experienced.

I am really interested in what many of you have to say, so please feel free to comment on any of the above.  Thank you.

It's hard to say with benzos.  I would guess you may have previous cuts catching up to you now. :)--v

Yes, that happened to me and you will find several references to it by others when you read around the site. People usually say something like "...I was doing alright until the medicine 'turned on me'..."

I called it 'toxicity and paradoxical effect' and I definitely hit tolerance. My version of "acute" happened while I was still taking the ususal dose well before I tapered and jumped. Any extra dose after that happened only made things worse and I had no choice but to taper and quit.
