Using about 6mg bromazepam for 5 years: going to taper, need help/advice (TY)

Hello all, brave warriors,

I will taper bromazepam, and your help is precious to me.

I know of the Ashton procedure to replace a benzo for diazepam and work from there, but I would prefer not to go that road.

In reality, the first 2 years of my 5-y long dependency was on Xanax, some 2 mg/day, and I asked my doctor to replace Xanax by Bromazepam because I had used it before and could quit without any problem, and without escalating (only used 0,75 to 1,5 mg/day for that short period, or even for only one or two days, with many months in between each use).

My tapering plan is as follows, and I need advice.

  Tapering Lx

Daily (mg)  SOS (2 time per week)

Aug'17  4,5      6

Sep'17  4,5      6

Oct'17  3,75      6

Nov'17  3,75      6

Dec'17  3      5,25

Jan'18  3      5,25

Feb'18  2,25      5,25

Mar'18  2,25      4,5

Apr'18  1,5      4,5

May'18  1,5      4,5

Jun'18  0,75      3,75

Jul'18  0,75      3,75

Aug'18  0      3

Sep'18  0      3

Oct'18  0      2,25

Nov'18  0      2,25

Dec'18  0      1,5

Afterward, use 0,75 as SOS (1x or 2x week). This point is going to make some people angry, I guess.

But I am ready to leave consumption altogether, and definitely, after all this endurance... I just say that I might use it as I once did, to not deal with that later phase of the process. I am taking one step at a time. But I know that this whole thing is being so bad that I may develop a deep hate for any psychoactive pill in the future...

I think it is unrealistic to aim at not using it as an SOS. I don’t drink, nor use any other drug, and I think I will need to know “it is there” in the case of need, but never again escalating. As I said, I used Bromazepam for periods of one to three weeks over the last 25 years, and it was only when I started using Xanax that I developed a problem with these stupid drugs.

And yes, I know I was stupid for not knowing where I was putting me into.

I would just want to know if there is something very wrong with my plan.

I am starting right now (a week and a half on the process) by reducing 6 to 4,5 daily, and this is my starting point. As I said the only reason I don’t go cold turkey on this is that I now understand the GABA stuff and how dangerous that would be.

Actually, I feel pretty good after some 10-12 days of reduction from 6 to 4,5 mg. But I also make a lot of effort: only today, I ran for some 20km, and I do this regularly.

Thank you all: I need and will appreciate your help.

I am glad I just let the drug tell me what to do.  This way cuts and even up doses when needed do not tie your hands.  A fixed plan did not work for me since the last 1/4 end of my taper got so brutal!

Thank you very much for your reply :)

I am currently in a very good phase of my life, and this helps to taper a lot. But I have endured serious stress for many years.

For now, after dropping from 6mg to 4,5mg I didn't feel the need for any "SOS" dose of 6mg (in my taper plan).

I am taking 4,5 mg for almost 15 days.

I may go faster to 3,75 mg if I keep asymptomatic for the next two weeks.

Really, I am afraid of seizures, or some other serious condition, but I am absolutely fine for now.

The pills I am taking are 3mg each, and I just wish I could take just one as soon as possible...

It feels very good to post on this forums and to receive answers back.

Thank you very much!
