Does anyone know why we get so tired when we taper?

Just wondering how you all handle the fatigue?

Hi Healing, when I have bouts of Fatigue I just go with it as much as I can, I rest and try to plan things that will not wear me out. Thankfully like other sx that come and go it is gone right now. But not fighting it is best for me. I have had this off and on during my taper. I think as the Brain heals certain parts. we will have some sort of sx, that helps me to cope also that my Brain is healing the part that controls fatigue. Stay Strong. :)

I find the lower I get the more tired I feel during the day, even when I get good sleep. I always wondered why, as Valium is sedating but my pdoc said it was part and parcel with a taper. begood is right in her post. That's what I think. I try to push myself so I am able to get out most days. Like now I am into a new game called Pickleball. :D

Hi Healing Seeker,

Ya, that's one of the symptoms that seems to be the most troubling to me -- the fatigue.  But I have learned here that it's really the way that the body is doing the hard work of healing.  I know that if I push myself I really pay the next day.  I have really had to keep a look out for "my limits"  learning limits... learning patience.

For me being with other people -- other than my partner -- can be exhausting so I've learned to keep socializing to the short and sweet.
